Don't try this at home! I decided to modify Julies MX5 loom for her Exocet, amazing how much weight and rubbish you can get rid of, you need to be brave however. I cut the wires one at a time and checked everything worked everytime I snipped one. Easy to get caught out and find the gauges have gone dead or the hazards start to flash slowly when they are switched off! I also found that you cannot leave the wiper switch off as the indictors feed via it. So I cut the stalk off instead. Def not a job for the faint hearted. I would advise to leave well alone unless you are experienced at auto electrics. I found you need to remove all tape first to show if cables are joined half way up the tubing which a lot are! Picture is of me screaming after I cut the loom with an angle grinder when taking the air con out in haste. Attachments:

made this mistake myself. tried to be clever and remove as much as possible. took out the aircon and blowers, windows and interior lights, only to find that the instrument cluster went dead! back tracking, cursing and soldering for an afternoon replacing most seemed to sort the issue, but would recommend leaving it as is! the half kilo isnt worth the wasted time!!

I hope all you exoceteers have bought a haynes manual as it does make it very easy to remove unwanted wiring and if you make a mistake? Just go to the appropriate wiring diagram and rectify, simple EEEEK

I've done this job a few times with rally car builds. You can save money by using what you have but it so much easier to start from scratch, plus with these cars you need hardly any of the wiring compared to standard cars.
