Apologies if this has been covered already. got a bit of a strange one. I can't get the dash illumination to work. It was working but now it's not. I've checked all the earth's. This is the confusing bit. with the connectors plugged into the back of the cluster there's 13/14v at the gry/red wire and the dimmer has no effect and the lights are out.
when unplugged the the same wire can be affected by the dimmer and the voltage changes.
Is there a short on the cluster. I think the only other feed to that plug is for the sidelights.
thanks

The panel lights are powered from the TNS (side light relay), the dimmer controls the earth side via the grey/red wire, as you are getting voltage on the earth side it looks like the dimmer control is not working. If you earth the GY/R wire the lights should come on full bright. Personally I always seem to run panel lights full bright so I usually don't bother with the dimmer - just connect the GY/R and black wires together at the dimmer connector.

dimming of back lights of dash is not required for IVA, you could probably sell the dimmer module though.

here's another weird one headlights all light up and full beam but no full beam indicator. There's only .8v on the red wire at the cluster. is the main beam switched to earth? I've checked the earth at the lights and it's OK. sorry to be a pain

The Mazda main beam warning light is a bit odd - powered via a small current through the headlight dip filaments that are not grounded when main beam lights are on. When your dip lights are working you should read 0V at the red wire, when you switch to main you should read 12V with your DVOM. However if you are running single filament Photon type headlights with a shutter for dip - things might be a bit different.

I'm running dominator lights with h4 bulbs same as mx5. I only get <1 volt on the red wire but full beam is on. bit weird.

Certainly odd - if you have 12V on one side of the dip lights and close to zero on the other the filaments should be glowing. Are the dips staying on when you switch to main?

Many thanks to JT for helping on this, the only thing I can suggest is the wiring of the 3 pin bulb socket, but have you got all 7 earth points connected as per the build guide. The guide also shows wiring of the Dominators although the colours have changed recently.

thanks for the reply, I've just checked the earth's all good, my dominator are the same as the build guide. my donor was a mk2 so this is how I wired them please feel free to point out my errors
dominator white to mx5 red/yellow (LH) & green (RH) dominator yellow to mx5 red dominator black/white to mx5 white.
also at the console red wire I'm getting approx .3v with dips and .9v high beam.
really annoying as this is the only thing that's not working now.
just checked with the help of a welding mask and the dips go out on fullbeam.
queue plenty of head scratching.

here's the latest. unplugged the white earth at the headlights and when high beam is selected no lights obviously, but warning light illuminates. I've checked the white earth cable and I've got continuity to earth when high beam is selected. literally pulling my hair out. any help much appreciated.

Hi Squiddy, Just read your post. How did you solve the issue. I've lost my main beam indicator since putting LED Bulbs in. I've put the H4 back in but still no indicator light.
