Hiya folks,
Just wandered where owners of the sonic are putting their battery, and are they using the battery from the donar car ?.
Another quickie - how much is the road tax ?

I'm going passenger footwell with a light weight powervamp battery.

We think alike James. That's my first option - just below the fuse box and relays. But then I thought is there enough room behind passengers chair or the engine bay.
I will pop over to see you soon mate - txt ya

Yeah there is enough room for both, but I wanted to balance some more weight further forwards, and leave behind the seats free for luggage.

The standard donor battery fits neatly between the LH engine mount and rear firewall and you can use the OE battery cables. however I see the advantages of the front location - haven't decided which way to go on my current build.

Just added a poll for this question.
Simpy because the option is there and thought it might be interesting to try.
So gentlemen vote away.

....afraid my Sonic is so old that there was only nigel to follow (.....no offence nigel ) or the builder guide. So, mine is located in the engine compartment, existing cables used. From memory it is a smaller than standard battery, but nothing fancy. Welded up a bracket to hold it, and bolted that to the chassis. I don't need to worry about saving weight as I am the original 10 stone weakling. Were I to do it again, I'd consider putting it up front, but not in the passenger compartment. Downside is the length of cable required and potential for difficulties starting due to voltage drop I guess (.....not pretending to be an expert mind - but that was an issue I experienced in my tin top with front battery rear engine). Truth be told martinw I started with the battery in the engine bay as per Stuarts demonstrator, then moved it forward of the steering rack in order to try and improve weight distribution, increase weight over the front axle. But it has now found it’s, final resting place in the passenger footwell sandwiched between the forward bulkhead and the passenger footplate rest. nigel

I don't like having that lump of lead and acid in the passenger compartment - I know a sealed battery with remote venting and properly secured is quite safe - so it's just me. Here's the bracket I made for a previous Sonic build: Bolts to the LH engine mount and chassis crossmember.
