I always fancied developing a rally Rocket. Never got around to it. Today I had an enquiry for an all terrain middy with body work for a customer in Angola. He tells me the roads are poor once you get off the main arterial routes, oh and very muddy at times. I guess the Ariel Nomad is as silly as my Rally Rocket idea. Exo and mud or flying gravel just do not go hand in hand, more like eye in eye!
Having received the enquiry I could not help wonder what a Sonic would look like if jacked up with long travel suspension. WOW!!! Stay with me. Big knobbly tyres, steel wheels, wide arches with huge gaps under for mud to clear. A roll cage with a flat laminated glass screen. Gosh all this and the only thing that has passed my lips today is coffee, honest!
Angus, sorry mate, just toying with the idea. I wonder if off the shelf buggy suspension parts could be adapted. It would make so much more sense than the Ariel Nomad. Could be a good market for it too. A sporty off roader, 2 wheel drive, yes , but then so is the Nomad and that has received rave reviews. Come to think of it the first big selling exoskeletal cars were sand rails, also 2 wheel drive middy's. Now they didn't have body work either.....
Anyone fancy knocking one out in Photoshop? Anyone, anyone?

I'd be keener on a jacked up Rocket than a Sonic, but yeah, loving it!

Well, there you go. Don't have photoshop, only CorelDraw but you get the idea... The Sonic Dune.

Way Hay ! Brilliant, many thanks. I want one. I would probably add 1/2 a dozen driving lights to the roll bar just for effect, oh and a colour corodinated Jerry can hanging off the side next to a folding shovel!

Do Louis Vuitton do jerry cans and shovels? I'd hate to spoil it with any old tat...

Big visible undertray, pairs of fog lights, top down wipers. Nice.

Much prefer that look to the Nomad. Proof below that Sonic is also a better car than the KTM Crossbow. Cameras never lie!

I jolly well hope the camera IS lying, I'm never going to be able to fit beefed up suspension to that! It's funny, the car looks much bigger in the photos...
