To answer the most common question:
This is not a licence to manufacture an MEV Rocket, this is an outright sale of all the original tooling - jigs, moulds, plans etc used to fabricate the genuine MEV ROCKET as designed and manufactured by Mills Extreme Vehicles.
In 2007 Mills Extreme Vehicles Ltd launched this exceptional car to the eagerly awaiting kit car buying public. It was an instant success. The nail was hit right on the head in terms of coming up with a well-priced product that had no competitors in its field at all. It was often referred to as a low cost Ariel Atom or a kit version of the Atom which Ariel never offered for sale.
Kit sales started immediately and became a very good seller on a regular basis. Sales were and currently still to all parts of the world as far off as Australia, India and of course the USA. Some started racing under the name Rogue Zenon.
MEV sold many kits in just 2 years but then made the decision to sell a licence to Road Track Race Ltd in Nottingham to take over manufacturing of the Rocket. They continued to benefit from the demand for the design but despite selling hundreds of Rocket kits they managed to go into receivership early last year due to unnecessarily high over heads. The design and all rights were relinquished by the directors and the tooling etc was returned to MEV Ltd as per the licence agreement.
As an existing owner/builder of a Rocket this is where we at Brimoto join the Rocket history in purchasing the Rocket from MEV with the intention to only manufacture a few kits per year alongside our existing business building bespoke vehicles which has now become somewhat over shadowed due to the demand for Rocket kits, mass production has never really appealed to me.
What are we selling?
As the Rocket will no longer be manufactured we are auctioning off all the tool, jigs, plans and moulds used to manufacture the genuine MEV ROCKET kit-car
We are selling an opportunity to either build your own car/s or to get involved in the kit car industry. A possibility to become a manufacturer but without the massive development costs and associated risks of failure should your product not be seen as desirable. Rocket has a proven track record of sales, a huge following, an excellent owners forum and hundreds of owners in the UK alone that are die hard Rocket enthusiasts.
We are not selling the name Rocket as that is owned by Gordon Murray's Light car company Ltd. Never a problem as the brand name Rocket has been used for 2 years prior to them registering it in 2009.
There is of course nothing to stop the buyer calling it a Rocket, unless Mr Murray has a change of mind, or a chance to re-brand the Rocket in a name of your choosing.
Materials cost for a chassis is under £200 so someone with time and fabrication skills could potentially earn good money at this.
Included in the sale are:
Chassis jig.
Front & rear wishbone jigs
Wing stay jigs for front and rear
Engine bay jig for top and bottom.
Front suspension mounting jig.
Bonnet mould,
3 types of rear engine cover moulds
2 types of wing moulds.
Chassis fabrication guide
Kit assembly guide
List of component suppliers
Chassis plan drawings
Drawings of all laser cut parts.
It cost approximately 100k to develop and set this car up and into production. This IS a very low cost way to make a low cost Atom.
