Hi all,
Looking to buy my first kit car, and have decided that the Exocet would suit my very limited skills.
However, I need this as a fun weekend car, not just a track day special and I can't see that I could get away without an IVA. Being of limited funds, I cannot purchase without knowing that it will pass an IVA (with suitable care in the build of course).
I look forward to hearing how the current cars being built fare - but I have one question to kick off...
The IVA inspection manual states that they can refuse to examine if 'the vehicle does not display, permanently, in an accessible position and readily legible, the required stamped-in vehicle identification number'.
As the old MX5 number gets binned with the body, does the Exocet kit come with a VIN plate?

Hi Indigoblue,
Although i believe no Exocet has passed a IVA yet, Stuart Mills has posted that it has been for a pre inspection and no major issues were raised, so should only be a matter of time before someone puts theres through,,
As for VIN No's having built 2 Rockets, and on both i made up my own Chassis No (17 Digits) and stamped them into chassis in suitable position, and them also made a Alloy plate, stamped in Manufacture and Chassis No and riveted this onto the chassis as well and both were accepted with out Question,,

Exocet comes with a stamped vin plate welded to one of the chassis tubes plus a little "cosmetic" type plate.
Or as said above you can get one made up yourself. I'm digesting the IVA manual pretty regularly and can't see anything that will trouble us with our Exocet.
Oh and you may want to cut out the MX5 vin plate just to have in case the scrap man tells the DVLA the car has been scrapped. Them you might get in some difficulty registering the new kit. Unlikely, but just in case!

Thanks,
I shall be watching the forums with great interest. Think I'll take a trip up to Mansfield before Christmas....
