I have read all the engine posts apart form those in the technical section as have not bought my kit yet.
Has anyone fitted the Puma 1.7 sigma engine ? and does anyone know if this engine will fit to the IB5 gear box or fit OK in a rocket with whichever box it comes with.
I believe the 1.7 sigma engine comes in either 125bhp in the standard puma or the 155bhp from the racing puma so seem an ideal engine being all alloy and light but with more power than the standard 1.6 zetec

Not sure if one has been fitted but an excellent choice for weight and power. I believe it will take the IB5 box and should fit much like the standard 1.6

make sure you tell the guys at rtr which engine you are going to use when ordering...I didn't and 1.6 engine does not fit without adjustments...and i assume same wil go for 1.7 puma...you need different lower wishbones to get a proper fit...

The 1.7 should fit the ib5 gearbox no problem, infact so will the little 1.25 engine :-) what you may find is that you need to put the drive shafts from the focus with the engine/box from the puma as the puma will have a different track width so the drive shafts will be longer/shorter??? I did a test fit of the 1.25 engine in my rocket when i had it, the engine/g box its self did fit but the fiesta drive shafts were much to short. hope that is some help.

The Puma gearbox is an IB5 box, its just different in terms of gear linkages and location of starter motor. This is a post i put up in the technical forum. Box on left is my 1.8 focus box with FRP internals and a Quaiffe LSD. Box on the right is the FRP which now has my IB5 internals. Note the starter motor position on the front of the FRP box whereas the IB5 is at the rear. The following phot illustrates this the best with the IB5 on the right and FRP on the left. This photo shows the rear of the IB5 box. When compared to the FRP box you can see that the FRP box has a completely different gear selector set up and its at the rear at the very bottom of the bell housing. I have this Ford Racing Puma IB5 box for sale with Standard Ford IB5 internals if your interested in a cheap box :-)

GX160Parts, how easy was it to swap the internals over and fit the LSD ? Any chance you have a few pics of the process and could do a write up in the Tech section. i'm sure loads of people would be very interested in it.

Hi Gaz
Its not easy at all! I paid a ford mechanic to do it for me as a homer. It requires a special tool so i thought it was easier to pay someone! Plus it was quite cheap i thought. He split both boxes and rebuilt them both for £250 including the cost of gaskets etc.
I have decided however to re-strip my FRP Box to see what is involved if i dont get a buyer for it so i may do a full write up for that in the tech section. That may be my January project!!!
I am currently giving my Rocket a major overhaul and i will do a full re-build post very soon.
