Some of you will know that I've considered selling my rocker before now but changed my mind well now I've decided it's got to go. Whilst it not the only reason my father has recently passed away after a short but brace battle with cancer and I simply won't have time to enjoy it with various family commitments from now on.
I've listed it on the dreaded eBay but thought I should also make it known on here should anyone be interested. I don't want to give it away but at the same time realise something is only what someone is willing to pay. I'll just copy and paste the description from eBay ad which is aimed at people not familiar with these kit cars so forgive me for stating some obvious information.
I've put it as a classified ad for £10,500 but am open to sensible offers. It is completely sorted now and ready to drive, everything works perfectly! May be selling wing and struts separately therefore are not included.
RTR (Road Track Race) ROCKET
More pictures to follow later today when I am back home. The two listed are on my phone!
FOR SALE – This is the unique Exo Skeletal Rocket Kit Car which I built over 2 years. It comes fully road legal and ready to drive away having done only 600 miles approx. I documented my build on the MEV owners forum (MEV was the previous name for RTR) and can be seen here….http://mevowners.proboards.com/thread/4405/shaggys-rs1-build
Purchased as a brand new kit in September 2013 I was attracted to this car due to it’s similarities to the Ariel Atom, a car I’ve always dreamed of owning.
No expense was spared in the build of this car and I used brand new components throughout, the only recon parts were items I couldn’t buy new such as the IB5 gearbox, Ford Focus Steering Column and Focus rear brake calipers. Everything else is brand new and detailed below…
Kit – Brand new with optional adjustable suspension kit, RD uprights, front Hi Spec Calipers and discs. Powder coated chassis/frame and black engine cover/bonnet.
Brand new Ford Zetec 2.0 16v engine fitted with brand new ancillaries. IB5 reconditioned gearbox (from Mk1 Ford Focus) coupled with brand new drive shafts.
Omex 600 fully adjustable ECU – brand new
Tillet Carbon Fibre Seats (£1700 for the pair) with Sabelt 4 point racing harnesses
Momo Alloy wheels in graphite grey with toyo Tyres
Momo Steering wheel with quick release boss
Koso motorbike computer dash and alloy control buttons
I built the car and enlisted the help of a Jaguar Land Rover electrician to help wire the car as electrics scare the c*** out of me! It’s incredibly efficient and every connection is not only mechanically secure with the appropriate connectors but also soldered. It’s a belt and braces set up and includes an inertia switch which cuts off the fuel pump should you be unfortunate enough to have a collision.
On completing the build I then had to turn my attention to getting it IVA’d for the road use. I had two choices either do it myself which would mean reading a several hundred page document and undertake a huge checklist of jobs…or send the car to a company who specialises in IVA prep. So I did the latter and at great expense I hasten to add but what it resulted in was me dropping car off and a few months later collecting it and driving it away!
I got the car back in January and have spent the last few months (when weather allowed) running it in and tweaking a few things to make it more driveable eg lowering driving seat position, getting the car laser aligned for correct geometry, adjust pedal position etc etc. Current bhp is approx 138 which for a car weighing less than 500kg is more than enough. However if balls out performance is your thing then you could add bike throttle bodies which would get you in excess of 200bhp. This conversion was priced up by myself and it's approx £800 but personally I think the current set it is more than enough.
The car is now ready for someone to enjoy and believe me enjoy it you will, it is basically a road legal go-kart with razor sharp handling. You will not be able to resist the temptation of throwing it into every corner as you race around the country lanes.
The car needs for absolutely nothing but there is nothing stopping you making it your own by changing the look. One thing I had planned to do and will include with the car was remove the engine cover and fit a rear wing, I have the struts and wing and have even drilled the mounting holes in the engine bay (fitted with rivnuts). If you do this you can show off the engine which perhaps means you’ll want to get some bling like a powder coated rocker cover?
I won’t say here what the car owes me, this will be info I give on request privately but needless to say it is way over the asking price (almost double). Building kit cars is a labour of love and I am under no illusion that I will get back anything like what I’ve put in but it’s nice for potential buyers to know what a bargain they are getting!
I have all the big receipts for the build along with the charges from my IVA prep company, these alone are a substantial chunk of the build cost.
So why am I selling it? Well I have a disabled son who needs 24 hour care and as he gets older I find I have less spare time so the Rocket is not going to get used as much as it should. Added to that I run my own business which again is taking up so much of my time!
Sensible offers will be considered and viewings are welcome (Worcester). Any test drives will be conducted by myself with potential buyer as a passenger. If you insist on driving it (with me as a passenger) I would require cash (asking price) to be in my possession first.
I am not in a hurry to sell it and if I can’t get what I am looking for then I may well keep it, enjoy the rest of the summer and then sell it next year.
