Hi Folks,
Looking to add some sticky rubber to aid traction in my Supercharged Rocket..... not even got it out of "low" power mode yet and it easily spins the wheels in 2nd and 3rd in the dry.
So, it's currently running 195/40/16's and it certainly appears like there is a decent amount of space around the tyres to the cycle wings. As there are no "decent" tyres at this size i've been looking at 205/45/16's. From "willtheyfit" know this is nearly a 5% rolling radius increase and will throw speedo out 1.45mph per 30mph, e.g. will read 28.55 when doing 30 but not overly concerned about this.
Key question is, any rocket owners running this or slightly different sizes on 16's and what sizes are you at when you have to start "adjusting" the cycle wings?
For info, looking at NS2R's or Federal RSR's as they seem to get very good reviews while being decent prices.
Any input appreciated! Chris

The 195 is defo a bit skinny to handle that power. What sort of power you think you have.
As long as your wheel width is 7 in (16x7) you can easily fit 205 or even 215 tyres on there.
I have 17x7 wheels and 205x40 tyres and they barely hit the sides. They fit under my with loads of room. I have the bevelled type wings but I imagine they are all much the same.
I'd been investigating going for 235 on the rear but finding a 15 inch wheel that will take that size and looks nice is pricey.

Nice one thanks.
I'll have a further look, if i could squeeze 215 that would be good...!
The car is currently running c250bhp on "low" power mode and believe full power is 290+. Have a dyno print out from before the engine went into the MEV showing 297.7... can't quite comprehend when i'll feel the need to try out full power mode yet, will wait til i'm on track likely and get a feel for it....
Cheers, Chris

Compound is more important than size, medium soft on a dry surface should be good for that power if warmed up.
A higher aspect ratio will be more compliant and going lighter by reducing to 15" makes sense.
RRR's are common but 45% ratio is low on a light car.
30 psi is not the way to go. Experiment down to 16psi but put a tipex mark on the rim/tyre to check they don't slip.
Corner weighting may improve the traction but check the black lines you create, one or two? An ATB LSD could be the answer.

Thanks for the input, toyed with going to 15's and not opposed other than the fact I quite like the current wheels so if I can get a good solution I'll a give that a shot first.
From further reading think 205/45/16 on a soft compound like the track version of ns2r's is worth a shot.
For info the car has an atb diff and running "low" pressure (18/20). I wouldn't say the car has poor traction, just it can easily break loose which with the power to weight I'm not surprised at, think stickier rubber will help get more of the power down.
Likely be a few weeks before I get some new tyres so will report back once I've made the change and done a few miles!

I have a similar issue going round corners, had a couple of incidents in sprint races.
I am about (well next month hopefully) to put some 205/50 Dunlop DZ03G soft onto lightish (5.5kg) 15" wheels.
Will probably reserve them for events only though as normal driving seems ok.

I have em on my car 15x8.25 with 225s and could easily go to 245s I reckon thread with pics of mine - mevowners.proboards.com/thread/7824/225-tyres-on-25xxr-rim?page=1&scrollTo=86335

You can fit 245's on an 8 inch rim.
I wouldn't put wide wheels on the front as it could make the steering heavy and possibly put too mush strain on the steering components especially with sticky tyres.
I would go for the wide tyres on the back to help grip and normal 205/215 on the front.
