Hi everyone!
Hope your not sick of me asking questions yet!
I'm looking into purchasing 4 new shiny wheels as I sold the originals!
With my very limited knowledge of wheels and a not so helpful build guide, im clueless, and companies cant seem to help as it is a kit car so they are relying on me to tell them what I need!
The manual states I need 195/45-16 with ET15 for no spacer.
This doesn't tell me what wheels to buy!
Does anyone know in more details what the exact spec I will need to ensure it fits the stays!
An example of the measurements they are sold at is 16" x 8.25" ET0
I hope someone can tell me exactly what size I need to buy without the need of using spacers or at least the right questions to ask
Cheers all

easiest way to understand is to aim for near zero offset. SO, if you have wheels with ET0, no spacers, if you have wheels with 30 et then 30mm spacers required. If you have ET15 then you can just get away without spacers. These are light cars and heavy and wide wheel/tyre combo's are not going to be ideal. 195 tyres on 15" rims, ideal. You will struggle to find ET0 wheels for 195 tyres. The J is the rim width and 7 is the way to go. The MX5 suffers from zero scrub radius and therefore offers little driver feedback, increasing the track width gives the car a great looking stance and more feedback.

Thanks Stuart, I will forward that onto the company to see if they can help point me at a few options

Rota do loads of 7j 15 inch alloys most of the mx5 race teams use them as a standard alloy plenty on the mx5 sits. For easy of tyre sizes stick to 195/50/15 loads around even good quality tyres are pretty cheap and track tyres are from £65 up. With the et as stuart says find the alloys you want then go for the spaces that are needed. Freaky parts is the guy to speak to regarding spaces wouldn't go anywhere else.

Thanks Welshy, I'm struggling to find any wheels with ET15 or less.
I didn't really want to go down the spacer route but maybe it's inevitable

And wow, spacers cost nearly as much as the alloys!

Ok, none of those alloys are as J7 so I guess it's not as important as I first thought. So as long as I'm getting a zero offset with or with spacers and the width is 6/7 I should be OK?

Hi Shane If you put mx5 into the wheelbase website the 15 offset is not available just 38 to 45. I called Team dynamics themselves and they will make the pro race 1.2 in 4 x 100 6.5 x 16 with a 15 offset to order for quite a reasonable price. I am roughly at the same stage as you at the moment but got some wheels with the same offset as the standard mx5, as I will probably use the originals for the test and trackdays and my new ones for show Therefore same spacers for the two sets.
