The gel coat that comes on the fiberglass is pretty damn good, I don't think anyone has painted over it yet. You can see color options on the website, I think there are 200 or so options. That said the carbon would look awesome.

That said the carbon would look awesome. I ended up painting mine due to the body mods I made (flip front and various other small mods) cost about £250 for materials. I also used a pearlescent paint that has a metallic 'pop' to it in sunlight. I would say the finish has more depth to it and is more glossy (my opinon) that a gel coat. Raw carbon sides as well. To get a A1 finish needs special equipment. Making complex carbon shapes (eg a bonnet) with a A1 finish is difficult. Car manufacturers will often lacquer carbon car panels to get the desired finish which is more cost.

Yes, more cost for a clear coat but that also to protect panels from UV degradation. For an extra $2400 though, I don't think its unreasonable to expect that.
