FAIL :-(
So i turned up this morning and the test center were not expecting me but hey, i was late so that worked in my favor!
to help others, here are a list of my failure points;
1. No manufactures plate (slaps forehead with own hand) - for some reason i thought this was the same as the VIN plate so that was a stupid mistake.
2. VIN plate not permanently attached. the guy told me that it had to have a seam weld the whole way around as otherwise apparently someone can wedge a screw driver underneath and peel it off... ( i think this is bollo*ks.)
NOTE - anyone who is in the Nottingham area with an arc welder and would like to donate some time in exchange for petrol money and a cold beer, please email me!
3.bottom edge of the car not radiused, rear of chassis not radiused and the area under the dash near the side of the car not radiused when he reached through the gaps.
4. Emissions - my car was putting out 10% co!! that's 6.5% too high... any ideas are welcome here.
5. Fog light comes on with side lights, not main lights - i was unaware of this rule.
6. mirrors - didn't have a wide enough filed of view. the guy who tested it said he could do if he moved his head slightly, but i guess this is not allowed.
7. headlight beams kicked up to the right "euro" style. this is annoying as the lights came with the kit.
8. Axle weights. i underestimated the axle weights and my car came in heavy so he told me it was a failure as the weights were above design weight... apparently this can only be rectified by a letter from the manufacturers stating what the actual design weights are which Stuart has kindly done for me already.
there were a couple of smaller things but they are the main ones.
overall the gent who doesn't want to be named was helpful and allowed my dad and i to make adjustments on things that were able to be "adjusted" to make them pass.
to end on a high, i got stopped by the police on the way home and i think the guy got very excited about catching someone driving without a number plate. he would not believe me that i was allowed to do it, but in the end i think i bamboozled him enough that he said i was ok as i had insurance... he did insist on following me home though!
