The fuel connection on the left coming from the small round plate. Is it the fuel cannister and can it be blocked up

That went to the charcoal filter originally from memory. I blacked mine of and have had no problems.

Tomaff is correct, i blanked mine off with a bolt up the pipe, i cut the pipe down short so it didn't need tethering, and used the bracket it was attached to for all my earth wires.

The return pipe from the charcoal canister of the emissions system went back to this circular connector. The connector is a rollover valve which prevents fuel flow from the tank to the engine bay in the event of, well, a rollover. When the car is upright (hopefully, the usual condition) this valve will be open. It should therefore be blanked off, especially if the fuel filler is higher than the valve. The blanking is mentioned briefly in the mev build guide.
