I'm not sure if this has been covered anywhere already, if so please tell me but im thinking of getting one of the fancier race style batteries and mounting it up front somewhere, maybe on top of the tunnel to put some more weight up front instead of using the donor battery and putting it behind the drivers seat, but im not sure what kind i should be looking at, i dont want to spend a fortune, just want something that will be fit for its purpose. any ideas guys? thanks, wayne.

Odyssey and red top batteries are small and light weight. I have the Odyssey 25, cost me £90 and I've never had any issues. Remember the battery isn't being used anywhere near as much on the rocket as on the focus. Your basically using it to start the engine (Most juice) and then the ecu, fuel pump, dash, a few sensors and lights when needed.

A quick search on the inter web seems that £90 is about the going rate. Wonder if a group buy could be of interest to others, 2 year shelf life suggests it could be a buy now for the future option.

Thanks guys for the replies, i may wait till stoneleigh and see if theres any show deals on, i have seen an odyssey extreme 40 for a decent price, is that a bit overkill then? and whats the lowest battery we can use on the rocket? thanks.

If it says it will crank a v6 you will be fine, I intend to use a jumper battery for the first initial starts when its been stood in the garage as that will be the heaviest work. Once the oil is warmed up and were out playing it will be fan dabby dosy

I'm using a Renault Clio 1.1 battery, after having a 200 quid optima die on me through being stood.
When the run in is complete, I will be getting an optima 90 odd. NEW though, not eBay 2nd hand.

So steve, are you suggesting that i use the donor battery until the build is complete etc? and then change to an uprated battery at a later date? i also wouldnt buy second hand, only new.

Personal preferences mate. U don't have to. I chose to, as the build I have has a few extras, compressor, water pump etc. a lot of electrics. The alternator is specced to be adequate. However, if of killed the red top through my continuous stop start tests and demands.
On a stock build, id of bought one no problems. And I will after IVA. May be worth a good few kg;)

I am using a standard car battery and have heard others doing the same. Main thing for me is ensuring i have a battery charge point as it will be needed in the winter no matter what battery is in there. Mine is under the fuel tank cover too so not easily accessible for charging, with your location this won't be an issue.

Location of the battery shouldn't be an issue for charging. I have mine under the fuel tank cover but have a charging connection fitted to the centre tunnel just at the handbrake. Charger just clips on no hassle and can be left on over night. I'm charging it now actually.
I have a smallish charger, as the battery is small the charger not only charges but condition's the battery, basically helps the battery to maintain it's charge. Only cost £35 with the additional charging point on the tunnel.
