Hi everyone, my name is William and have decided to build the tr1ke after weighing up with the Mevabusa, reasons for this was, emigrating to oz next month and the Mevabusa is not road legal yet? Just a couple of questions if you can help; 1. I fancy a flappy paddle gear box on the trike is this possible? rough price £ 2. Good quality alloys and tyre makes? 3. The R1, what sort of milage should i look out for and l believe 98 - 2006 models are the right donor years, pref carb? 4. Good supplier for all this gear and more, at sensible prices? Thanks for your time. William

Hi William Just finished building my trike and have used kliktronic with flappy paddles, whole setup is just under a grand I think. Alloy wheels and tyres is down to personal choice and budget my wheels were about £100 each (17" ford focus) and tyres around £70 for fronts and I went for a Yokohama track day tyre on the rear at £150 ish. As for the R1, pretty much any model can be used as long as you let RTR know when you place your order. Mine is based on a 2007-2008 model, bit more work involved in the wiring but hopefully it will be worth it when I get it back next week All parts are available on line just check who is cheapest at the time.

Thanks Paul, thanks for your reply, how long did it take you to build, and what cash have you thrown at it, i guess we always go over the budget we put down? Was it simple to install the flappy paddles. cheers

all fairly simple, bit of modifying and adjusting to get a good position for the paddles. I spent 9 weeks on the build and overspent quite a bit. Once I have sold the R1 parts the build cost will hopefully be under 10,000, but I did pay £4500 for the bike

If you want good qty alloys, you want good qty steering wheel, gear knob, seats ,lights, gauges and paint and finished rear wheel as well which are reasonable more expensive as the stock items but doesn't make it a butget car as RTR suggests even in stock version. But it should make a massive impression. The wheels don't need to be expensive. I paid 120euro for my wheel. It is the choice matching the tR1ke+R1 rear wheel which makes it a good qty match. At first Iordered Momo corse wheels but cancelled after 10 months waiting. Later I saw several Momo's for real and they looked not very elegant and light. Momo claims to be light but I doubt this and are very expensive and overrated. My wheels 17" wheel turned out to be 7.5kg. Just have a browse in my thread to see good suggestions and mods. best advice for now is when you buy an R1, put it in service and make a Dyno run before dissasembling to have an approved engine by the bike mechanic. If the engine is in the chasis you will not be able to do this anymore. Venom had an engine go poof shortly after MVSA. br, Erik

Thanks a lot for your advice, nice work Erik i'm sure that wasn't a budget kit? My other big decision is, as l said i'm emirgrating towards end of April, do l purchase kit etc here in the uk, or purchase from a dealer in oz? RTR have a company down the road from where we are based in oz but Wow sooo much more, all to do with taxes and import. Can you remember Erik or Paul the rough dimensions of the kit when you purchased it?? Gives me an idea of cost to send if i purchase here.

The kit is stock, but one can go for nice parts or on a budget and buy twice later do make it right the way you really want it to be. I took the short cut and buy the parts I want only once This car has been build very basic with the parts you really need exept the oil temp gauge and clock on top of the bonnet and the navigator. It took only a ong time to build her clean of wiring and hoses. Not sure if ordering at RTR is the best route. The dealer in oz sure knows how to make it street legal and the additional costs are worth reconsidering.
