question... the RD uprights taper bearing is tight around 12mm from its correct position. do i just wind the nut and it will push it into position? does it need pressing? should it be hand tight to remove. i think advice is needed before i damage anything. cheers, paul UPDATE.. ALSO THE SMALL OUTER BEARING TOO..

Paul,
I've never used the RD Uprights but my suggestion would be to clean-up the shaft with a strip of fine emery paper, the bearing should not be an interference fit; they will be pre-loaded when both bearings and the hub are fully assembled as a unit. It may be worth checking the shaft OD with a vernier or micrometer and checking with RD that the shafts are to spec first.

yeah i have checked, i dont intend to emery them seeing as i paid a nearly 350 for them though. they should be right from the box, if i interfere i imagine it will be a getout if they were to fail

Paul
I noticed this when I was fitting mine but thinking on it at the time the bearing inner diameter Needs to be tight on the shaft so the outer bearing part rotates around it if they were not Tight the whole bearing would rotate and damage the shaft.
After discussion with an expert, I put the bearing on then the hub with the smaller Bearing on the out side, placed a washer on the smaller bearing and tightened the Whole thing up with the nut.
There was very little resistance so all was good.
I have had them appart since to shim out the shaft to centralise the disc the bearing comes Off with a puller with no damage to the bearing or shaft.

ok, today i have sourced 2 x 12 pin & 4 x 7 pin, mil spec electrical connectors. im going to mount these as a quick release marriage panel. so the engine is quick and easy to remove. ill use 1 of the 12's on the omex, 1 of the 7's on the steering wheel electrics. then the others on niff naff. this sort of thing www.rayservice-ade.com/catalog/category/101/but with a keyway in it

another hefty bridge crossed today, i have committed to a chassis colour. the powder has to be ordered in from america as its pretty special. the colour is 'lazer black cherry' its like a really dark red wine/cherry over black, with a metallic flake in. im using S&P powder coaters in halifax, they are strip cleaning the metal, priming, powdering and then lacquer top coating. all chassis components, all extra bracketry i send and 4 alloys for a very reasonable price. i didnt want a standard RAL colour.. obviously as that would be sensible www.prismaticpowders.com/colors/P-4237B/paul

Regards to your mounts for the mtx, I've just fabricated a gearbox top mount, and set the engine in place.
The gearbox top mount sits 50-60mm back, and the dogbone lines up perfectly.

cheers steve, i worked it to be around 50mm too. have you moved the dog bone mount right? The dogbone mount lines up perfectly where it is. No need to butcher. Happy with that the pictures on my build page. Maybe ford have different gearbox mounts on different years.? I know in the focus forums they change from ib5 to mtx with no issues.

Yes, the focus mk2 one fits nice, plus I've shortened the focus disc brake cables and it all fits nicely.
I'll post the method shortly for the cable shortening, the handbrake conversion is in the tech section.
