I've been looking at the main site and I can't see an options and prices list? I know the lightweight is an option, and there is the body kit option with the spoiler and skirts?
1. Is there an option for a luggage compartment in the rear above the fuel tank?
2. Is there an option for a windscreen or plans for one?
I've been through the PDF build guide and it all looks do-able over the course of a few months, but because the lightweight has a MEV manufactured front sub-frame, it's going to be slightly different isn't it? What's the extra work involved?
3. How feasible would it be to fit the MX5 heater? Would it be simpler to pick up a simple aftermarket one off the Kit Car show and and plumb it in?
I know these sound like silly questions but I really want to explore the possibility of building a car I can drive on any dry day - enabling me to use it to drive to work on 'nice' days, I don't have a garage and cars don't like to stand in my experience so in addition to track-days I want it to be as usable as possible.
Thanks,

in my opinion the heater would be a waste of time as the finished car is way to open for it to make any difference. the footwells arent too chilly as you get the engine heat traveling into them from under the bonnet. other than that its totally open. the main issue is wind chill on the face so a screen would avoid this. the lightweight kit has a built in subframe front and rear so you can scrap the mx5 subframes and simply use the suspension components. only difference in the build would be to bolt all the parts to the lightweight chassis and drop the engine and gearbox in after - as apposed to building all the subframes and suspension up with engine and gearbox and then dropping the frame over it.
in terms of parts and spec, id say give stiggy a call as theres a lot of options out there that most of us never get to hear of until we see them on someone elses car!
hope this helps.

Hi Smokemare, the window is easy to answer, all you need is shatterproof perspex shaped to your likeing. But not until after the iva or you will need wipers, washers and demister fitted. luggage is the same, make one. Can't see the heater working as there's no sides or roof. For prices go onto mev main site click on exocet or any other model, a menu will then appear on the left, click on the model of your choice, when thats loaded the menu's are at the top of page, options include donor, price, build guide ect. as for the lightweight not got one, so don't know. Hope this helps Steve

Hi Smokemare,
You may want to talk to a couple of insurance brokers before you start your build as well; I tried to get cover to drive my Exocet to & from work and they didn't want to know at all, in fact it stipulates on the insurance certificate that this is expressly forbidden. I would imagine that you can get cover for this, but it is likely to be more akin to a normal (highly modified) MX-5 premium than an Exocet premium. Bare in mind that my annual insurance (limited mileage) on the Exocet is around £140 as opposed to approximately £500 for an MX-5, and that's quite a hike to be able to use it for work.
Cheers,
Steve.

I insured my rocket through footman James for a couple hundred pounds a year fully comp, which includes commuting. Re the heater, you get a nice waft of heat coming from the radiator that warms your feet and lower legs ( I'm using my rocket at the moment with shorts on!) re the screen, not a lot of point as you get a lot of side winds so to be fully protected you would need side windows... A wooly hat and shades does the trick nicely.
