Hi guys, Noticed MX5 Heaven provide donor packs for 1.6 or 1.8 including all parts and V5 etc. Does anyone have any experience of buying these type of donor packs? When I (hopefully) start my build I'll be restricted to a single garage and don't really want to have to have an MX5 on the front drive in pieces (not sure the missus will be too impressed!). I know it'll be more expensive this way was I won't recoup any of the money back on the sale of parts from the donor but quite like the idea of convenience. Cheers Chris

Hey chris
I was gifted the donor parts - and it is proving timely to work out how they all go back together - without the aid of the guys on here photographing everything they do i would of been stuck. I think strip the donor so you understand how it all works - space isnt really a snag as you get rid of the excess , and you know all the parts are from one type (mark) of car ,then can make you own decision about the miles its done and what or not to replace. ( I believe this is the cheaper option as well)
good luck

HI
I agree with Red5, my car Knowledge is basic and i have learnt so much over the last few months stripping down the Mazda. My garage is a double but has units down both sides, i have stripped down my MX5 and rolled it out into the drive it is tiny once cover up. If you removed the PPF bar ( joins the gearbox to the rear sub-frame) and the prop shaft you could make it even smaller buy pushing the 2 sub frames closer. Then you could prep the exocet frame in the garage.
If in the end the only way you can do it is buying the donor pack try and see if the guys from MX5 Heaven will spend some time with you going over the kit and try and take lots of photos of one they are stripping.
good luck!

Chris, where are you in the country? I know a guy who's going to strip a 1.8 as the body is rotten. He asked me if I knew anyone who'd want the rolling chassis. If you made him an offer for it, he'd strip all the panels and parts not needed and sell you the rolling stock.

Thanks for the info/offer. I'm in Birmingham at the moment, but have an impending house move in the next few weeks. And realisticly won't be in a position to start the project until Christmas/New Year.
With regard to the donor pack, I roughly know one end of a spanner from the other, and have a mate with a MK1 MX5 to nose at if I get stuck. I'm an Electrical Engineer by trade, but hopefully that shouldn't be too much of a hinderance lol.

He's based down in Weston, I've pointed him this way. I dont know his timescales for stripping the car, but he just wants to make his money back, so I recon it'll be cheaper than an MX5Heaven donor. Either that or keep a look out for people on the MX5 forums who're breaking their cars. It's a load easier for them to do the hard work for you and give them a chunk of cash for their scrap
