Thats just like the one i got, 99reg, 1.8lx, 86k, 12 months mot, i paid £580. the car drove fantastic on the way home, really quick car to be honest, i was very surprised how quick it was, it had me smiling for the hour journey back home. bet it will be rapid when in the light weight rocket! the only thing im concerned about now is that no focus parts seem to be selling on ebay so not sure if i should weigh them in with shell of car or let them go for pennies, anyone got any ideas? go and test drive it mate, if it feels right then buy it, you gotta remember your only really buying the engine and a few other bits and bobs, not car for daily use. good luck and let us no how you get on. ;D

That seems like a good price, i know what you mean focus parts on ebay dont sell for anything, i have tried to sell most parts but no interest, i sold a complete trim which was in mint condition for £ 10, that included seats, door cards, carpets etc. but when you get the car for this amount, the engine gearbox keys and ecu would cost almost this amount and plus you know it works.

The focus in the ad looks good, I also bought a 1999 reg but it was a saloon with 120K on the clock, ditched the engine for a new 2.0 litre one and got a new gearbox. All the other items required for the kit ie steering rack, drive shafts where all good so the £480 I paid was well worth it.
I still have the front doors (full electrics) and various other bits left to sell but getting a bit hacked off with ebay charges for items that don't sell and posting items that sell for pennies. I have already recovered the cost of the car with previous sales so thinking of just ditching everything I have left to recover some garage space.

The 2.0 Litre has a MTX75 geabox which is a bit too big. You can pick up a IB5 gearbox from a scrap yard for about £50-100, then anywhere from £150 to 400 to get it refurbished. It will fit on to the 2.0 Litre engine. You will need a 1.8 litre engine Flywheel and clutch kit. Thats why I bought a 1.8 car and then just got a 2.0 litre engine. This is all info I was given from other members when I was buying a donor so hope this helps.

Can't use the original ecu unfortunately, plan on getting an Omex 600 ecu. Should be able to use most of the wiring loom hopefully. The new 2.0 litre engine was 780 quid including vat which I thought was quite good. You can use the alternator and starter motor and all the other brackets off the 1.8 even the oil dip stick. The company was powertorque speak to a guy called salv.

The Omex 600 is good, and apparently very easy to map, (fingers crossed as we get ours mapped tomorrow now we've done the exhaust).

A donor with rear brake disks would be a bonus but I found it quite hard to find a 1.8 with discs, they can also be bought at scrap yards for about £50-70. I happen to have a spare pair of rear calipers going spare. Most of the major mechanical components you can get from the donor it all depends is you want to upgrade to the alloy uprights and hubs with hispek calipers or the ajustable arms.
The £6000-7000 build cost is a bit optimistic. I have spoken to several Rocket and Sonic builders and they agree more like £8000-9000, I am expecting to come in at around the £10k due to the fact I am going for a new registration so trying to source all new parts with the exception of drive shafts and steering column, my engine, gearbox are new but I believe that one or the other can be reconditioned. I used the donor car as a learning experience as I know or did know very little about car mechanics, I have now sold or ditched the donor parts but did make my money back so no loss.
I'm looking at completing early new year and having the IVA in FEB/MAR 12.

Hi, i got ta 2.0ltr donar and am finding i am having to get quite a few bits to make engine fit, so 1.8 would probably be alot more straight forward, although i agree that finding one with rear disc is not gonna be easy. I also agree with build cost of £8000 to £9000, i am well over £7000 and have wheels, seats plus i'm sure lats of other bits and bobs. With regaurds new reg, my local iva guy said steering column was one of the items that has to be new, i might have got that wrong Ned, but you might want to check
