hi there. i'm getting set to strip down my mx-5 at end of august. it has served me well over the past few years and 17,000 miles but its now a third car and it's getting long in the tooth. below is an old pic, it has had the 'boy racer' treatment since and also has a hard top which will be a large part of the parts value. I have a few questions:- 1. i take it i will need to sorn it (&renew yearly). what other paperwork etc should i prepare for... 2. its on an inherited personalised plate, will i lose this at iva if not put on retention. i'm not that fussed on it to be honest. 3. what can i expect for parts? i recall someone has a list. take it i should be using ebay or mx5 nutz to sell parts. i'm hoping for £1,000-£1250 which is basically the car's resale value. Thanks in advance for responses

As for the Bits, i have sold all my spare bits from my MX5 mostly on ebay, i paid £600 for the car and got back around £1000 for the bits, still have some parts left so i rekon around £1200, remeber before you scrap the body to cut out the vin plate and keep it safe

thanks. when i scrap the body do i notify the dvla that it has been scrapped and it therefore no longer 'exists'? i take it i still keep the v5 as proof of origin for iva also if i change the gearbox/diff would the iva pick up on this and give me a q plate

hi I have sold over £1200 worth of parts from a £700 Eunos MK1 1.6 with lots of extras, i still have over £600 worth of parts on ebay BUT they are not selling, items like door hinges and glass.
Start by putting anything chrome on first! followed by that roof, it will sell quick. I am always being asked for the roof, rear registration panel and front wings. the frankanstin bolts (chrome hard top location points) go quick, electric window motors are £40 each again go very quickly, mirriors get about 30-40 each green is a good colour to be selling!
You can post the roof, bonnet, wings and even doors by Royal mail standard parcel for <£20 each but you loose a hour of your life wraping them!
At some point i must put up the list of items i have sold and prices i got as i am trying to sell everything!

HI
Don't tell the dvla you scrapped the body, or they might think you have scrapped the whole car, what i did was to cut out the Identification plate and VIN plate on bulkhead, there where no identifying numbers left on the car, and then just called the local metal merchant to come and fetch it., make sure you sorn the car and thats all i think you need to do, take plenty of photos of the stripping down process and building process, so to show the IVA inspector when it comes around to the IVA, also keep the cut out VIN panel safe again to show the IVA inspector.
