Hi, I have Just purchased a good running focus with a V5. NOT a cat C or D.
Obviously for my build I will need the V5 for registering and age related plate etc. So when I come to dispose of my Focus shell after stripping it how do I go about this.
I need the V5 so if I scrap it doesn't the V5 have to be sent off? Do I remove all indentity form the shell, ie cut out vin stamp in floor, remove visible vin under front screen and then scrap the shell as "scrap metal" keeping the V5. Effectively the car isn't scrapped? Any Info would be very much appreciated

Hi Jake
I am at exactly the same point, my focus has been stripped completely apart from 2 rear wheels handbrake, windscreen and rear screen. I have been told that I should keep the focus until my kit has been registered but the wife won't have the shell on the drive way any longer. so I have SORN the vehicle for the time being, applied to have the remainder of the tax returned then I will scrap it. I have taken all VIN plates off the car, taken photo's of the dismantaling process and will also take photo's of the car being lifted by the scrappy. The V5 will have to be taken with the car.
The V14 for claiming tax back gives quite a good brief on the procedure.
When I was ordering my kit Paul at RTR did say that they have had no problems so far registering rockets with new plates. I did ask about keeping the donor car registration.
Basically keep as much documented evidence ie pictures, vin numbers, receipts for new items, just incase, but I will be going for a new plate, if all else fails there's nothing wrong with a Q-plate.
There's some good info in the Tech section on Donor cars, one of the threads I started when I bought mine.
Ned.

With both our builds, we stripped the Donor, and set it to the scrap yard, but kept the V5 and made sure the vehicle was sorn, but did not delare it scrapped, then took the V5 to register the Rocket and get a age related plate,,,

Thanks Scott
Didn't know you could do that, have SORN'd the car but thought you had to give the V5 to the scrappy Man when he collects the car.

When I had my Nova scrapped I had to positively force my V5 on to the scrappy, he just wasn't interested. From your point of view, unless you get the scrappy to sign the V5, it is still your car. OK, in my case the car could still have been driven and I would have been responsible for tickets etc, and in your case you're handing over a pile of metal that will probably never see the roads again, so there is a slight difference there.
