Sorry if this is the wrong place but I'm new to the forum (moderator please move if not the correct place). Previously built a Fisher Fury (sorry for swearing on the MEV forum ) and sold it last year (sad day) and the itch for a new project has now well and truly started. So, the question I have is - what has happened to the MEV Missile ? I cannot find the kit for sale on any of the MEV/RTR/Smart sites. I like the Sonic 7 but prefered the more minimalist style of the Missle. Is this still available direct from MEV or not ? Also, if it is available, will the 1.6 Zetec S engine fit easily. I would prefer this small all alloy lightweight (and tunable) engine to the iron block Zetec E (had a 2.0l Zetec E on bike carbs in my Fury). As an alternative, anyione fitted a Mazda KL 2.5l V6 in the back of an MEVC Sonic/Missile yet ? Thanks for your help in advance. Ugg10

Hello Ugg10
I have no idea about the Missile, I am sure Stuart will give you the low down, but I am at last pleased to hear someone else who sees the benefits of the sigma engine. bike carbs are a good idea, Chester sports cars have an article in this months CKC magazine were they use there own ECU and bike carbs to take the sigma to 144bhp at 6800 rpm for £900ish quid. A great engine and all aluminium too.
Cheers

Cheer for the vote of confidence. Interested as this engine has had very good revies in the Sylva R1OT and J15, similar layouts to MEV cars and is now used in the low end Westies and Cateringvans
Shaw Speed used to advertise a 170hp kit for the Zetec SE for around £1400 involved ARP bolts, valve springs. high lift cam and an OMex ECU but used all the standard inlet tract - very tempting. They have now updated the website but have not found this kit since.

The Missile was originally built as an electric one off, but after it was shown, there was quite a lot of interest from customers so it was offered as a kit. However during a period when we probably sold 20 or so Rockets and Sonic 7's, not one Missile was ordered so we ceased to market it as it was neither fish nor foul in most peoples mind. The Sonic is very similar front and rear and for those that find the Rocket a little too extreme, we can supply clear polycarbonate side panels that make the thingypit totally snug whilst retaining the exoskeletal looks. (I think the rude-word-ometer needs turning down a bit Nigel... the interior of a sports car/plane/racing car does not suggest male genitalia... or then again, it might have done when at nursery school... just like Grand Prix if mispronounced)If you attach the panels with velcro as we have done on our demo car then you can easily remove them when the weather gets really hot. These options seem to be enough to divide customers into having either a Rocket or a Sonic 7. The 1.6 engine will easily fit into the Rocket chassis but requires a couple of spacers making for the engine and torsion bracket mounts as they are not in quite the same place as they are on the 1.8 and 2 litre cars. The Sigma is a nice little engine and very tunable, but due to the inlet manifold and exhaust manifold being on opposite sides of the car, things like our sports exhaust and manifold options will not fit so we market the kits accordingly. If you want a Rocket with a Sigma engine, then deliver your engine and box to us and we will supply the kit with the correct mounting points and bracketry. Paul Holmes. RTR

Ugg10 I have a nearly finished Missile chassis in my workshop, if you wish to be different it is one of only 3 made. It shares suspension componenets and some panels from the Sonic7. I was saving it for another EV later but I need space now. The Sigma engine is completely different to the Zetec in terms of mounting so it would need to be sorted at MEV b4 despatch. £3500 (see Sonic list for whats included) if you are interested. Please use info@mevltd.co.uk regards Stiggy

Paul/Stiggy
Many thanks for the rapid responses, very much appreciated.
Interesting to hear about the lack of interst in the Missile. I must be one of the odd people who liked the idea of the Rocket Exo open style but liked the styling of the Sonic front/rear (sorry not keen on the Rocket front styling). I guess a compromose would be the front end of the Tr1ke with the rear end of the Sonic (smoothed off or open caged) ?
The offer of the kit is very intersting but will have to put on my negotiating hat and go into battle with SHMBO as I was not planning to start any build until later in the year or possibly early next. But, this has probably made up my mind to get a 1.6 Zetec SE Focus and get it ready for donation, possible over the summer. Will the Miltec tubular exhaust manifold fit into the Missle/Sonic chassis or will I have to source a bespoke tubular system (or even use the J15/R1OT/Mojo one ?) ?
Many thanks once again.
