Well, After lurking around the forum for a while and running a Mk1 MX5 this spring, a plan started to form that meant that the 'Winter build' I'd first thought of can start a little quicker and without having to shell out for a garage until I really need it. I've just bought a Mk1 1.8 complete rear subframe with arms, Diff and driveshafts etc. which I'll strip, clean, then send the heavy metal parts for blasting and powder coating before reassembling with new polybushes and bolts (Does anyone do a full kit of new bolts or do they have to be sourced individually?). After this is completed, I'll do the same with a Front frame and steering rack, by which time the inevitable requirement for space will have come. When I strip my MX I'll sell off the Front and Rear subframes as complete assemblies and swap them in the build for the freshly refurbished ones. Does this sound like a plan or what ;D As I go, I'll keep the thread going and where possible add photos. Looking forward to getting my mitts grubby now!

Now bidding on a Front Subframe, Steering Rack and PPF on a 'well known Internet Bidding Site'. Very much looking forward to seeing the Exocet (and the 'Team') at Stoneleigh on the Monday. (Now how much of a deposit would be acceptable to get into the Tech Section but not have the kit readied till Sept / Oct?) Not having been to a Kit Car show before ( ) I'm wondering whether to continue my searches for Bushes and Bolt sets online or wait until I get there and hopefully snap up a bargain or two? Pointers welcomed.

Well. Good news! I won the bidding on the Front subframe, Steering rack and PPF so a short trip yesterday saw a heap of dirty but serviceable parts sitting in my shed. Not one to hang about, they are all but torn apart now (Gotta LOVE the impact wrench!) and if my calendar serves me right we're embarking on a long weekend so I should have all the components stripped ready for blasting and powder coating in quick time. My lad and I are heading for the Stoneleigh show on Monday and if I can't get some bushes there I'll be ordering some when I get back. The Rear subframe should be on its way too so this part of the project might not keep me occupied all summer. Some deep thinking is called for ;D

I'm afraid to say I've had to abandon the Exocet project due to lack of a promised garage...BUT ... I've just ordered an MEVX5 whilst at the AMM. Good times! See you on the MEVX5 forum

How does that work Andy, won't you need the same amount of garage for either project?

No, I'm having them deliver to the road ready specification and I can take on the mechanical stuff in the drive on good days. Where I was worried about a lack of garage is having a totally open car with wiring etc hanging out in the weather. Hence the change to a hardtop car.
