Hi folks,
Appreciate this is totally down to preference but I am looking at the exhaust from my 1.8 vvt donor and i believe it will not fit the exocet kit as is. It is in pretty good nick but of course the cat is 16 years old so who knows how well that is doing. I was going to somehow Frankenstein an exhaust using that cat to save some pennies with a view to upgrading the exhaust at some time in the near future.
I have been offered £175 for the cat by a guy on Facebook. He sends them off for recycling i believe. I was quite surprised how much he was offering. If it’s legit that will go some way to a whole new system. Any thoughts on this? I still want to do things on the cheap and i get it that cheap cats are probably not that good but I’m not going to be doing many miles and want it to pass the iva and mots and sound good!
I am interested in canvasing what others have done with their old cats, reused or renewed?
Cheers folks
James

Hi Craig,
Did the £350 you got for the exhaust on facebook include the whole exhaust or just the cat section? It seems that they are really worth something. Is £175 too low? Im guessing the oem cats are chocked full of precious metals wheras the aftermarket £60 type are not?
Also the replacement exhaust you put on, presumably stainless steel, will have to have a cat in it. What the damage for that?
Cheers

Hi James
so yes if you have the same as me in a mk2.5 1.8VVT the cat is worth at least £350 if not more now.
Yes they are full of precious metal and I sold mine to a guy on facebook.
Regards a stainless new exhaust I haven't got that far on mine yet but there are others in the facebook group how have sorted a full stainless system for around £350-£400
The price is just for the cat alone no need to give them anything else. The whole exhaust is no good anyway as it is too long for the exocet so I plan on full stainless and worse case is I will but a cheapo one and then use a decat afterwards on stainless system so either way I wont need the standard
Hope this helps

Mk2.5 cats are fetching between £4-600 at the minute. Don’t give them away. Also, the back box will overhang the back of the Exocet with the stock mid-section. You’re better off going for the MEV stainless backbox and getting a mid-section made from the cat.
