glad you git it sorted, you were correct, the bolt in the clutch unit does need removing and a longer one needs to be in its place with a spacer or washers. Please make sure no one is listening when you sit in the car with a steering wheel and go brum brum!

Haha, I may have done that! I can't wait til it goes brum brum itself! Been out working on the car a tad over the last day. I’ve got the fuel tank lined up and I’m ready to run the fuel lines tomorrow which is great. Looking at the system has given rise to a few questions though. I need to delete the evap system, I’m trying to keep up a mantra of ‘change as little as possible until after IVA’ but there’s no space for the charcoal canister without some extra leg work. However, I’m slightly unsure of which pipes to reconnect even after watching some videos. I know I need to keep the solenoid and plug it in, so the engine light won’t come up. As I understand it, the evap system is the vent line from the fuel tank, and it can redirect gases into the intake if the conditions are right. Removing the canister simply means no gas will be redirected into the intake anymore, but that is fine, the canister is old and doesn’t work anyway. So, in the picture 1 of the image below, the purple circle connection just needs to be blocked so the intake isn’t open to air. The red connector then needs to go to where the green one was connected originally. Honestly, I can’t remember where that was attached, was it the tube I’ve circled in green in the second picture? If it is, is that just open to air inside the front subframe? That should be job done, right? Thanks for any help!

Loads on you tube and so on about this but essentially remove canister, keep solenoids and wiring and blank the top of solenoids where pipes come off. Then blank or look the small pipes that come under engine bit. I have y piece and put them all together into that but haven't had IVA yet - although my emissions DID pass MOT level.

See the builds by Paul Taverner and Russ Howell (Fleet - Exocet Build). We both documented canister removal, Cheers Russ

With the charcoal canister removed, do I still need to have the fuel tank vent into the front subframe? Or can I just vent it at the rear of the car? Would save me from running another copper line.

Just vent to rear. see pics in my thread. I think there were three connections from the tank. One is your fuel to engine I think i may have folded over the charcoal connection tube to seal it. and third connection i kept the one way valve on.
Or see Paul Taverners thread too.
Sorry cannot remember more...

You can vent wherever - it makes sense to do it nearer the tank end to save on piping. Loads of options here but you need to vent somewhere hence why the original has the extra pipe for filling. You could get a vented cap or a joint function rollover/breather from somewhere like cbsonline and put that on the top of your tank. Something like this www.carbuilder.com/uk/90-degree-fuel-tank-breather-valve

Brilliant, thanks =)
I tried fitting my seats the other day. I kept the leather seats from my donor as I really like them, unfortunately, they really don't seem to fit.
Can anyone recommend some cheap seats that definitely fit? I'm 6ft 1 so they need to go a reasonable way back in the cockpit. I didn't really expect any cost on the seating front so this came as a bit of a surprise, I figured mine would drop right in!

I find them very comfy with some kayak seat cushions mounted to them. They look good, keep the weight down and can be easily dried if you get caught in a shower. Mine are bolted into the car with adjustable brackets to give me the best driving position. I believe they bolt up to mx5 runners if you need them to be adjustable. I am half a foot taller than you and I find these seats very accommodating. But failing that many go for entry level clubman bucket seats. Sparco or similar. Demon Tweeks are good at giving the key data on their website and catalogue so you can see what fits you and the car.

I have the Mev gap with the same kayak pads but now will make my own pads to fit better. I used the mx5 runners on both seats for ease. You could go for other seats that have padding already on them (there's guy on Facebook that makes some really nice ones - not sure on the dimensions) or go with some from inta trim, demon, rally design and so on and use generic runners. Word of caution though, the gap ones are ok, need painted on the back to make them appear nicer but more importantly, they don't take too kindly to using the headrest or back to lean on when you climb in, nor does the base like a heavy foot on it. Oh and if you are tall in the back, beware on where you might need to cut out holes if you are using harnesses - check IVA regs on heights for yourself.

Thanks for getting back to me, I spoke to Stuart today and there's a bit of a wait, around 4 weeks for the seats, the postage isn't cheap either. In view of that I went back out to the garage to try the original seats again. To my surprise I actually found a seating position that worked! I'll upload a picture of the angle that worked in case anyone else has the same problem. The seat couldn't be fitted with the rails and mounts need to be made, but it is possible.
I'm well chuffed, I'm happy with those seats and if I want to upgrade later I can try out some seats in person. Demon Tweeks bring quite a few seats to Autosport International so I'll have a look there next year =D

Hi Chris
I've been reading your post and wondering if you have finished your project and if you still have the Exocet, I to just starting the journey in building my own kit and was wondering if we could have a chat at some point to talk over pit falls or better still if we could meet some where (Costa always a good place) so I could have a look at one of these cars built?
I live just outside colchester in Great Bentley.
Cheers Andy
