I hadn't thought of dipping or wrapping so that's something to explore. Thanks Dave.

After a bad case of inertia I finally got round to applying for an IVA test, failed first time but passed the retest today. Now to figure out how to register it!
Cheers Steve

Congratulations, it's only a couple of forms & the painful payment, shout if you need a help on which ones & what to put Thanks, I may need a bit of help. Is it form V55/5 or V55/4? Everything I've read says V55/5 but the DVLA website lists V55/4 as being for kit cars. Cheers Steve

Congratulations Steve. Hopefully you can get out and about and enjoy it. Interested in your thoughts on driving it.

I found the wind in face experience of the Sonic off putting so started thinking about ways of having a screen with a turned up lip to deflect the air better. This is difficult to do without a special former due to the resulting double curvature. I looked at motorcycle screen extensions and as it happened Angus had one that he was going to try but never did before opting for a full windscreen. I was a bit sceptical when I saw it as it was quite small, however it completely transformed the driving experience, it was enough to deflect the wind to the top of my head rather than my face. As it worked so well I thought I'd get another one and make a full width extension. I've just made a template out of hardboard so far, but I think it will work OK. As seen by the holes, I had the mounts too close together at the extension didn't follow the curve of the screen. Now to get it made in polycarbonate. Cheers Steve

As a Sonic owner I fully understand your 'wind in the face' comments. I have 'toyed' with the thought of fitting a higher screen.
Why have you gone for an extension rather than a complete new screen that you can still see over thus avoiding the fitting of wipers?

Steve,
Assuming you are talking about driving without a helmet?
Was it the extra height or the steeper angle that made the difference? Would be interesting to see if just a taller fly screen would work?

Why have you gone for an extension rather than a complete new screen that you can still see over thus avoiding the fitting of wipers? I will still be able to see over the extension and I decided to go that route as just fitting a taller screen at the same angle as the existing didn't look as though it would work, the angle needs to be steeper. The motorcycle screen extension was a very cheap way of seeing if a taller/steeper screen would be a benefit. It was only because it worked so well that I decided to try the full width extension. Cheers Steve

Steve, Assuming you are talking about driving without a helmet? Was it the extra height or the steeper angle that made the difference? Would be interesting to see if just a taller fly screen would work? Stu I tried out the screen extension without a helmet, just to see hoe effective it was. Even with a helmet I find the wind blast to be annoying. I think it is a combination of a little extra height along with the steeper angle, with the steeper angle giving the greatest benefit. You'd need a wind tunnel to prove it though Cheers Steve

Thanks for your reply Steve
I will be interested to read how the extension works out.

The full width polycarbonate screen arrived and fitted. I think it looks OK, better than I expected. After a test drive and I can say it works. It was a chilly 10deg and the top of my head was a bit cold but the rest of me was fine out of the wind. I did wonder whether I'd made it too high and would be looking through it rather than over it, but out on the road it's fine and could even be a bit higher. However I don't think making it higher would achieve anything because of the turbulence. Cheers Steve

Great work. I think a new dash moulding with the screen lip following this curve profile would be the ideal solution. One for Mike to consider. The existing setup is too curved at the sides which is probably what causes the buffeting you experienced.
