My Rocket is 3 years old in July and therefore due an MoT. Can anyone who has MoT'd their car let me know if the headlights need to be in the same position as they were for IVA? i.e. stuck up on posts so they can be seen from all the relevant angles.

MOT standards are somewhat different (....I think!) in that they are not inspecting height of headlamps, visibility of indicators, radius on contactable surfaces, that sort of thing. My Sonic has satisfactorily passed MOTs every year with headlamps which are too low for IVA, and indicators which are too far from the outside of the car for IVA. It even passes with a potentially "illegal" small front number plate; I always take my full size one with me. If I were to be stopped outside the MOT station, my line is that I've just changed it after the test. Apparently, VOSA can do spot checks on MOTs, and wait until a vehicle has been passed (monitoring the systems online) and then immediately appear to do a re-test, to check out the MOT station. I've been taking vehicles to the place I use (and it's usually about 5 a year!) for the last 20+ years.....they're great, but other than the number plate I don't think they are bending the rules at all. Thanks Martin, that is really helpful. I wasn't looking forward to moving the headlights as I would have to rewire the connectors again.
