I need to either order a special pair of snap ring pliers or leave it all together and hope the seals make it through the powder oven. I'm sure the seals are rated for higher heat than what the powder oven would reach but I'll probably bite the bullet and just order the pliers and do it the right way. Powder coat is around 200-210c I believe, I reckon that would melt seals. Cost of pliers could be cheap v the cost of replacing melted seals plus any damage caused by melting. It is a pain buying special tools for one off operations but at least you will have good pliers for other jobs. For sure. The last thing I want is to make more work for myself. It's a gamble that they wouldn't melt but why risk it? I rigged up some needle nose pliers and it worked like a charm. Now to get that damn Crankshaft Lock Bolt off. I'm making the tool today at work so hopefully that gives me enough leverage to crack it off. I'm surprised my impact can't break it free. Hopefully the special tool does the trick.

Okay, time for an update. I finally got the crank bolt off using a tool I made at work. Everything is easier with the right tools.

I got the bolt undone right before we took a mini vacation out to Vegas to see one of our favorite bands, Highly Suspect. If you haven't heard of these guys, do yourself a favor and tune in. So, back to car stuff, I tore into the engine this weekend: The head is off and sitting on my bench ready for a new set of Supertech dual springs. They should be delivered today. The pistons were pretty nasty but the cylinder walls were clean. I can officially say that every bit of my donor car is in pieces.

Helpful tip:
Once you get the head and oil pan off and and are ready to flip the engine over, be prepared for the coolant left in the block to pour all over your garage floor.
I wasn't.

My chassis is off to powder coating. I got this picture from Exomotive on Thursday last week. It should be painted by mid week.

Nice, congrats! It's a fun project and super quick to do. Start thinking/looking at how you will package wires etc.

Nice, congrats! It's a fun project and super quick to do. Start thinking/looking at how you will package wires etc. I ordered the wiring tray from Exomotive with my kit and I've been researching as much as possible on how everyone has managed their wires. I REALLY like SeanW's setup but I'm not sure I have that much patience.

My chassis has arrived home safe and sound! We drove to Atlanta for the pickup and Kevin was super cool and showed us around the shop. So many fun toys there.

I rented a pickup from Enterprise and it worked just fine. The chassis fit in the back like a glove. When we put the car in the bed it was shrink wrapped up like a cocoon. This protects the car really well but doesn't withstand the wind going 75 mph down Interstate 75. Within 5 miles after leaving Exomotive I had shrinkwrap trailing the truck for about two car lengths. So, we pulled over and regrouped. I had a moving blanket with me so I thought it would be a good idea to wrap that over the shrink wrap and try again. this lasted about another 5 miles before the truck looked like it had 80" Superman cape attached to the bed. Off the highway again. At this point I decided less is more so I cut off all of the shrink wrap and left the the frame bare. We never had any issues the rest of the way home and it gave everyone on the highway a nice view of the brand new Exocet frame.

The valve seals gave me some trouble trying to remove them. I was mangling them trying to get them off. I found that if I pried up one side of the seal it would make it way easier to pop them off from above. I just used a screwdriver to reach under the seal and pop up one side. Once that was done you could reach down with some needlenose pliers and pull them off the rest of the way.
