Hi Long time no post, now the weather is finally getting better I am determined to get this damn kitcar finished. So rather than do trail and error buying loads of tyres and fitting them I’d like to canvas what size tyres people are using. I’m thinking 185-65/70-15 I am also on Gaz gold pro coilovers Cheers

Hi, I am on 205/50/15 but this all depends on your wheels and form/function goals. Personal preference I think.

Brett, What width rims and offset are you using? How well do the wheels/tyres fill the arches (esp. front?)

You need zero ET (off-set) this will ensure the tyres are correctly positioned. Use tall tyres on 15" rims in favour of elastic bands on 20" rims. If you use the wire wheels from Motor Wheel Services Int they are zero ET. OR FOR EXAMPLE: If you have say 30ET then 30 mm spacers would bring it back to zero.

I think my dbr might be too low to take really tall tyres. I could try the 205’s I guess. That’s a lot wider than a standard mx5

One more question do you use spacers that retain the hub centric ability or are they just basic flat spacers

Brett, What width rims and offset are you using? How well do the wheels/tyres fill the arches (esp. front?) I'm using Magnetto Wheels MW R1-1559 from here. 6.5" width and 35mm offset vs the 45mm stock. They don't fill the arches as well I'd they could visually, but reducing the offset is better than stock wheels visually and avoiding spacers works performance wise. I think the 205/50's sit nicely and give a good compromise. Would go narrower on stock motor.
