Okay, so I am on the last nut in the suspension on the strip down...the drivers front upper control arm castle nut.
I've removed the cotter pin and now the nut just keeps turning.
anyone know how the brace the top of the ball joint to get the castle nut off? Is there a cap that can be removed?
thanks

If your really struck, rip the boot off and use some grips to hold the pin from spinning. You will probably damage it beyond use again though.
Before that try putting a Jack under the hub and putting some upward pressure through the hub and arms (if safe to do so). That pressure can make the pin bind nicely in the hub and stop it rotating enough to get the nut off

you can also try rotating the ball joint via thr steering arm (track rod) shaft so it locks out or use a fork tool for removing the taper part. Hammer it in and it will lock it up so you can move the nut a bit a t a t i m e.

hi tj, I had same problem I just tightened it back up (really tight) to re bind the ball joint then cleaned the threads above put jack under then eased the nut of a bit at a time going backwards and forwards to keep it binded. they came right off ps if you have sprayed it with wd40 or easing oil use brake cleaner first to make it regrip the joint. cheers Paul

Thanks all, spent another hour on it today, cleaned it, wd40, and tried to lock it out with no success, even tried some heat know that might melt the boot (probably replace it anyway).
If anything the joint it looser now and turns easily!!!
I’ll give some of your ideas a try in the week, otherwise the angle grinder is coming out.
Thanks
