Stick with it, I'm sure we have all been fed up with the build at some point. You are so close!

The loom could be damaged allowing the cable to one of the injectors to catch on the bulkhead. The ECU normally switches the injectors via earth so you could have one open all the time. Good shout. 10 minutes spent pulling the plugs and seeing their condition could prove this option, plug would be vastly different to the others. or at least it could narrow down to if you have 1 or more cylinders with issues.

Sooooo, update.
Sourced and fitted missing purge solenoid, checked o2 sensor and all wiring briefly, nothing obvious.
I have decided to rewire the car due to all the electrical issues I have had and all the work arounds I have had to implement.
The new, used loom will be left as standard and nothing will be cut at least I will have piece of mind that its not the loom, then at least it can be treated like a 'normal' mx5 without the big black wiring cloud lingering over head!

I rewired my Rocket 3 times, on the 4th and hopefully final iteration of it now. Learned loads along the way, but I would certainly have saved a few months had I not just ripped it all out and used the wire-in loom from the off. The really surprising thing was how little of the wiring is actually needed to get the car going. Power, injectors, coil, crankshaft sensor, TPS and a nice Start button and it'll probably start. Coolant, air temp, and cam sensor to get it running nicer.
