A quick update post Brands Hatch.
Whilst Testing on the Friday before the Race Meeting I noticed (Due to Blow Back past the Rings) I was over filling my Catch Can.
This is bad both because of the Mess but also not polite to spray Oil over a Race Track, you get pulled by the Scrutineering.
As my original Catch Can was only a Small 300ml Version (It did have a proper Oil/Vapor separator inside mind you) I had to do what all good Racing Drivers/Mechanics do is Strap another Overflow Can to the first one and hold on with Stainless Wire Wrap.
This worked perfect and got me through the Qualifying session and the 2 races.
I did drain between all 3 times going out mind you.
After the Race Meeting I bought a 1 Litre Catch Can (eBay special) but wasn't happy with it being Polished Aluminium.
As I was taking the Wheel Arch Stays to get Powder-Coated (only painted them originally due to lack of time in the rebuild schedule) I asked the Powder Coaters to do it in the same Red as my Wheels/Cam Cover/Cage/Wing etc.
A bit more Red can't hurt, can it ?
I kept the Top Cap Aluminium and if you look in the Picture you will see an Aluminium Cap also on the bottom. I need to buy a New Mini Air Filter but when time permits I'll swap it.
As I will have to drain this (until I build a better engine) I was originally going to fit a Tap to make draining easier until I stumbled across an ingenious product for Motorbikes to help with Servicing and prevent damage to Drain Filler Hole Threads from repeated use.
www.stahlbus.com/info/en/products/oil-drain-valvesThis is a Valve Body (with a protective screw on cap) that comes with a has a Hose with a Bayonet Style connector on the end.
To use you unscrew the Cap (no oil at this point) and the Hose/Bayonet fitting when Inserted and Twisted allows the Oil to drain.
When finished Remove the Hose/Bayonet fitting and refit the Cap. Job done, no mess and only a few seconds to do..
The finished product installed in the car, a nice contrast against a sea of Black...
Whilst on the Subject of Red and Black, I think I've found a New Race Outfit (when the pennies are saved) to go with the Car...
