Hi all I'm contemplating de-powering my steering rack and removing all of the associated gubbins when I do my conversion. Here's my thinking, 1. The car will be slot lighter so does it really need it? 2. it will tidy up the engine bay. 3. One less think being driven off of the crank so maybe a happier engine.
Has anyone else done this and how have they found it?

Remove it, you don't need PS in an exocet.
Its easy enough to do.
also, this is posted in the wrong section of the forum, this is for the progress threads of exocets.

Hi, I would say get rid. If you are going to do it follow the guide that includes stripping the main seal from inside the rack. I wouldn't have just looped the pipes personally.

I fully agree with Mikeeyboy. Get rid of it and eliminate the seal. My donor had the loop, which caused the steering to jump at certain points. Removing the seal solved the problem. Steering will be heavier below 5mph but otherwise fine.

just to be controversial I have decided to keep mine as what you save in weight is negligible and if it becomes an issue with the build I can remove it. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this i'm just planning on using mine for a weekend toy so decided to try and keep it as I can always chose to remove it if I feel its not beneficial but to try and add it later will be costly, I have also kept ABS as it cant be a bad thing? decisions decisions

FWIW I kept the power steering on mine and liked it. It's gone now that I'm putting in the K20, but think it allows you to have finer control around the cones autocrossing. I asked a buddy who's one of the best drivers on the national level to drive my car, and about the only thing I remember him liking at that point was the power steering. The suspension was too soft (replaced with coilovers now), the brakes too sensitive to heel/toe (replaced with lower coefficient pads), underpowered for D Mod (K20 in process), etc..

If I had to do it all over again, I would keep the PS. The sticky 205 tires on 0 offset wheels that I run require alot more muscle at the cost of steering feedback vs the stockers from my direct experience running both setups back to back. If you insist on going without, I would search high and low for a true manual rack (which is now on my upgrade list for winter mods if I can find a good one).
