Hi all,
Just a quick question..
I have the fuel lines and brake lines to do this week, what size are they and what spec do they have to be to pass the IVA? I know I need to retain receipts and Stuart did tell me what I needed (and where to get it ) but can't for the life of me remember..

I use 8mm copper for fuel (3/16ths for brakes), no receipt required unless you use rubber, but you can save money and use the donor rubber at each end of the fuel pipe and for filler hose.

Hi again all, Hope everyone is well. I just got my IVA test date, for late September and just wondered if I could get a definitive answer on insurance.. Not sure whether I get a temporary insurance for that day based on the donor, based on the kit car (cant find any companies for that specifically) or if I really do not need any insurance to drive the exocet to the test center 35 miles away..
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, good luck with your IVA test. I have mine in September too.
I've got my Exocet insured with Footman James. They can insure the car on its VIN as we don't have a reg. no. yet, they gave me a cover note for one month (to cover the IVA test).
They specialise in kit cars so getting cover was really easy. I'm certain you'll need insurance to drive your Exocet to and from the IVA test.

Same as above but I went with a different insurer but the same cover applies.

I insured mine on the VIN to drive to the IVA with Adrian Flux. Just remember to drive it to the test centre with no number plates, yes that’s without any number plates on the car. If you put the donor plates on, you are breaking the law - strange but true!

I could however do with some advice. I looked regarding registering for the first time and there is a table, it says from 1st April 2021 the first years tax on a car with 210 g/km co2 is £1345! Surely this is not applicable to me, or is it?... Gulp! Advice on this would be great (especially if its good news) as the DVLA decided to be on strike all week.
Regards

Hi and well done on passing your IVA. I passed my IVA in September 2020 and got my car registered a couple of weeks later. My tax was something like £260 for a year.
Apologies if this wrong but I'm fairly confident that as the Exocet is a donor kit car we keep the donors original tax bracket. My donor was M reg. Not sure what year your donor was?
But hopefully it should fall in the pre 2001 and over 1500cc bracket. So, looking at the regs I would say you would be looking at £280 a year (looks like there has been a slight increase in 2021).
Just saw your donor was from 2004.. So checking the government website you maybe looking at £340 a year. Its very complicated!! Fingers crossed you don't have to pay £1300

Thanks lots mate. I have reread the regulations. It says if your certificate of conformity (I assume my IVA is one of those) does not have a value written in the co2 box we go under PLG tax which is around £330. My certificate has N/A in that particular box so, fingers crossed, will call monday..

Phew - Just to let you all know, the regs are that youll be PLG tax group (as the IVA certificate will have n/a in the co2 emissions box), either above or below 1600cc so my 1.8 is £280 first year tax and same from then on.
Now I remember why I drive hybrids normally!
Thanks again for all the help from members on here and I will get around to writing up a sheet of things to keep in mind when using this particular model as a donor. The engine made it impossible to fit without raising each corner 30mm off the subframes and the mazda lighting was a real pain to work around but I am happy to have finally finished and am looking forward to spinning it around for a little while before selling.
