***EDIT - For anyone searching, this was the fix - Simply ground the Grey/Red wire that connects to the the gauge cluster (The wire is in the middle connector), this bypassed the dimmer switch (MK2) Hi all, Been a while, good news, I have sorted out the electrical issues I was having! I only have one issue now (that i know of) that should be an easy fix according to Stuart I cant get the instrument panel lights on we believe this to be because I haven't connected the dimmer switch back on and I dont have it any more. Stuart advised I can connect 2 of the wires from the block connector together to make the lights come one without the dimmer switch. I have taken a look at the wiring diagram and think I have found it, is it the BLACK wire (earth) and the RED/BLACK that goes to the relay? The GREY/RED wire seems to be a common wire which used to connect to the other switches on the dash. Thanks

How did you fix the electrical issues ? I took it to a garage, left it there for a day and then handed over a few notes

I want to play it safe as ive heard many times and Stuart not long said on the phone it will fail. It would be my luck it failed for the sake of 5 minutes connecting 2 wires

Interested in people's opinions on this as I'm tackling it just now. I've found the red & red/black wires to be connected (I have two connectors which were blanked off on the dash by the Sri ers right knee, dash lights up when the red & red/black wires from both are connected individually). The lights work when I bridge the two with a multimeter, but blow the fuse when I just connect them together?

My understanding, to complete the circuit at least one of the wires need to connect to the BLACK as thats the earth? And it's the one that becomes live when the lights are switched on, is that right?

I don't remember the color of the wires, but I also had a problem with the instrument lights not working because the dimmer switch was not present. My solution sounds the same as what Stuart suggests - connect two of the wires together (completing the circuit) and then everything worked.

Removed my dimmer switch. Jump the red and red/black wires.

Gray/Red crossed with Black lamps will be on.. Red/Black crossed with Black is a dead short and will blow fuse.. R/B hot when lights on. Ground side of bulb is Red or Gray/Red depending on year of donor, that is what is switched/dimmed with dimmer switch to add ground to bulb.

It's a bit confusing because the red is actually a pulse width modulated "ground", which is to say its switched between open and ground at a high enough frequency that it acts as a dimmer depending on how much it is on vs. off. At least that's the way it works in my NA.

My donor was JDM. Not sure if that makes a difference to coloured wires. Like I mentioned, the dash lights work with the red/black & red connected from one of the blocks and when the other is bridged with multimeter ONLY. Strange. Going to take through my big box of bits in hope of finding the block off plate that was installed in the dash.
