Has anyone fitted side panels to a rocket?
An odd question I know but finding a Sonic is proving nigh on impossible so thinking of a Rocket with added weather protection.

I don't know of anyone fitting panels like on the sonic but I have seen foam inserts that go between the chassis rails

I can't see the real point in Rocket side panels. If water is coming in the sides then it is also coming from above. Weather protection has to come in the form of water proof clothes. In the case of Exocet we offer a full screen, this then allows a builder to get a soft top. Exocet has sides up to half way up as standard and these can be added to the top rail too. Of course without a screen you cannot add a roof and a screen changes the look dramatically.

I made side panels for my Rocket, foam sheets cut to shape then covered in synthetic leather material then zipped tied to sides. Works brilliantly in the rain as most water comes from the tyres especially when you are turning left or right, thats when you get a good power shower! Still need waterproof clothes but at least you dont get as wet with the panels on.
I only use it on long trips where rain is forecasted.

Thank you for your replies.
My objective was to eliminate/reduce wind entering from the sides. I do not anticipate using the vehicle in the rain.

Are you able to post photos of the panels please?

But wind doesn't enter from the side, unless stationary.

Will see if I can find some pics to post. I have also seen a Rocket with a 2mm clear perspex/acrylic sheet cut to shape and attached with zip ties across the entire length of the inside part of the chasis. It was one whole piece and might be a better solution.

Dry sky, wet floor. Turn through a puddle and you get proper wet!
I've got tarpauline to try out, stretched round the sides and tied with rope is the plan.

Not sure about an old tarp and ropes, may be aesthetically unpleasant. Tensile structures are all the rage though, maybe a smaller version of this.

I had a rough shot at this, the side of a Rocket is much curvier than you might imagine, so the ability to heat and bend the acrylic would be critical. The sheet I got was disappointingly brittle. I think I'll probably get motorbike leathers ultimately, and a full lid on every run, keep the aesthetic.
