Carbon fibre looks cool if done well but then again GRP is light. Not much to save really, CF is stronger but adds nothing in a car where the body is not a stressed component. Expensive too. Our grp panels are not exactly huge either but maybe a couple of CF seats will help, either that or drive with 1/2 a tank of fuel, or take a pee/number 2 before you drive.

Just weighed mine and it came in at 740kg which was heavier than I was expecting. The wheels ive gone with are the biggest culprit I think. Theyre bloody heavy, 15x8 with 225 tyres. Then I used aluminium guards, its a big turbo, big 3 inch exhaust, big radiator and oil cooler etc etc so it adds up really quickly. I'll get onto some weight reduction after final inspections are complete. My car sounds similar to yours, 15x8 with 225s and turbocharged (oil cooler etc) and I came in at 707kg

A standard MX5 wheel/tyre weighs 12 kg, wonder how that compares to a 8J and 225's? Digital bathroom scales can be hidden up your jumper for the trip to the garage.

Team dynamic 1.2 - 16x7 with a 195/45/16 toyo px4 tyre is 15.52kg
XXR 527 - 15x8.25 with a 225/50/15 toyo r888 tyre is 17.47kg
noticably heavier, however the sacrifice to go to decent 225 tyres is well worth it imho

Another way to save weight is to strip out wires from the MX5 loom that are not needed, this lot was heavy.

Less is More (weight saving) when it comes to Wiring But race cars don't need Indicators or Immobilisers ! Arm Signals and a "Crook-Lock" anyone ? Regards Micky..
