You really don't need a torch for the fender mounts. A medium hammer is more than a match for them.

Sucks to see you struggle so much with the fender .. I'm glad I prefer the 'naked' look. I was planning on running naked wheels until I blasted the crap out of myself with road pebbles. Truthfully, I started to feel guilty about my Star Specs flinging rocks at other cars on the road. I was only going to run fenders until I got through inspection, now I'm planning on a set of very nice aluminum fenders as a permanent feature of my build.

Appropriately, I have just become the mayor of the Los Gatos DMV on Swarm. I've been here a lot, recently. It's like I'm trying to register a car or something.

And then, after 10 minutes trying to explain to the clerk who'd never seen an SB100 registration before what I needed and the involvement of a supervisor, this was handed to me over the counter. Let the games begin!

Also is fender a requirement of SB100 ? I saw Rumm's car was fenderless and am pretty sure he's done with SB100 too .. though again it might just be something different at each DMV .. Re: the rocks, I bought 3M tape to protect my chassis powder .. .. as for other cars, I might change my mind later when my R888 start flinging rocks, but for now I really much prefer the fenderless 'F1' look.

It's less about the DMV and what they require as what BAR will require. I want to leave as little to chance as I can going through this whole process. I got caught out during brake and light when they saw that I didn't have license plate light installed. I don't want to get the CHP or BAR and have them say, "This all looks cool, except for this thing you missed, go away until you fix it." So...

I just finished up my BAR appointments last week (I'll post an update in my thread soon). I did not require fenders at either of my appointments CHP & BAR, but I have installed some since. Fenders are a requirement for a few of the track day clubs around the area, so it isn't an awful idea to install them. With that in mind I will be at Laguna Seca on the 26th if anyone else is going.
I had a similar issue with my BAR appointment as you did with your B&L. The ref checked everything over and then handed me my paperwork back and said "Every thing looks good, but... The DMV has your make listed as EXOMOTIVE instead of SPCNS". I ended up having to go back to the DMV and then to the CHP to get it all corrected.

And it gave me a small panic attack. Just checked my documents and it looks like the DMV has listed my my make as SPCNS so I think I'm good to go there.

What office/division did you call to make your inspection appointment with the CHP? I'm kind of confused on where I should call/go for this step?

Saturday has been something of a frustration. For reasons I'm going to go into too deeply I needed buy a 50-300 lb/ft torque wrench. (Front wheel bearings needed to be replaced.) And then a ball joint puller. The ball joint puller was ground down a little to make a stud cheap and cheerful wheel stud press. Anyway, after a fair but of annoyance getting things pulled apart and put back together I now have extended wheel studs on all four corners of the car. I have fender mounts on the front corners. Tomorrow I should have fender mounts on the back corners! Then all I need is for the 15mm spacers I ordered to arrive so I can put the wheels back on the car and have them clear the fender mounts. So, anyway, picture and video time! The ball joint puller, ground down a little to remove some of the ramping to the forked platform at the base of the tool. Needed to get it sit correctly against the hub. The ball joint puller clamped in place on the hub and stud to be removed. Note the lug-nut I've threaded onto the stud. That's to keep the puller's screw lined up on top of the stud while the stud is pressed out. Then it's just a matter of nailing it with an impact driver. In this case, my 18v Ryobi impact driver...which is almost my favorite tool ever. I didn't actually take and photos of video of using the ball-joint puller to press the studs in but here's a photo that'll give you an idea of what's involved. (Using one of my old hub assemblies as a model.) And last, but certainly not least, it looks like I need to patch the cord on one of my overhead lights. Glad I caught it before horrible electrical fire occurred! Tomorrow I should be able to get the fenders actually mounted now that I've got a much better idea of how I want them to sit over the wheels. (I don't know why I'm obsessing about them so much, I'm just going to replace them with better aluminum fenders in a couple of months anyway.) If I'm lucky, maybe I'll also get the rear bodywork mounted. It's a stretch goal but I think I can make it happen.

A bit more from today. Going slower than I would like but that's the way of things, I guess. Aluminum template to ensure that all my holes are spaced properly. Pilot holes drilled to 1/2" depth. (1/8th drill) Drilled out more, tapped M8x1.25. Bracket bolted into place. The bracket is made from 1" angle steel, 1/8th thick.

Have my DMV appointment scheduled for December 13th. Question, though. Do I need to have my DMV appointment finished before I make an appointment with the BAR or can I schedule that now, too? (SB100 specific question.)

(SB100 specific question.) When I booked my BAR appointment they required me to have my SB100 certificate in hand. I'd still recommend trying after you get your sequence number though. Your milage may very.
