G'morning guys,
Just sold my weekend toy and it took all of an hour before I missed having something special in the garage. I've been aware of MEV for a while but unfortunately I don't have my own powered/lit/spacious garage (just a rented single unit) so a build is out of the question for me at the moment.
So I'm after a tidy Rocket ... or maybe a Exocet. I'd prefer something with 150bhp+ but if I have to do some engine work to achieve that it shouldn't be a problem.
I've seen a few on Ebay etc but the spec or car's location has put me off, and to be honest it would be good to know a little about the build / builder as you get in one of the build threads on here.
Thanks in advance
Martin

How much you looking to spend. I would part with mine for 20k.
But Andy Patey might sell you his black one.

The blue/chrome car has been around for a while and is at a good price.
I haven't seen the black one with the orange wheels before. It has had a lot of chassis mods done on the back around the engine compartment so I would want to check the quality of the work and any documentation like IVA, mot and anything from the company/guy that did the work.
Can't comment on the Exocet.

Some confusion over the engine size in the blue one, advert title says 2.0 Zetec but the spec list states 1.8 - I've asked them to clarify.

The blue one looks good and has been registered already.. Ask seller for a video of the car running and shifting gears on road. He could do it with his cell phone.. Ask what the date on the tires are, over 5 years (Reg in 2010) should be replaced.. Good buying point to knock cost down, 17" not cheap..

Very smart.
A 32 page build thread is going to take some reading so I'll leave for tomorrow when I'm at work ;o)
I'm interested to know if the engine is standard or modified in any way ?

Does private seller have any more legal responsibility than a dealer selling under these conditions? I don't think I would like to offer a warranty or any other similar conditions on a non-production car. It was probably taken in as a trade. That's an an interesting modification, I wonder if the original build is documented. However the lack of rear fenders because of the use of the 18" wheels might mean it cant be made road legal as it stands. Whilst it has plates on it it does not guarantee it would pass an IVA test as it is currently configured. Not such an issue however would it pass an MOT?

Martin Standard 1.8 113bhp at rear wheels as you'll see in the build thread. A supercharger or turbo would be great fun.

Private sales are very much 'buyer beware' with little possible comeback if the car falls to pieces within weeks. Trade sales however have to be roadworthy and safe. This guy has small print stating that all cars are sold for parts and should be assumed to be un-roadworthy, sounds to me like he's trying to avoid his legal obligations. Yep, the 2nd car would probably be too modfied for me as I have no way of correcting issues or assessing the quality of the modifications from standard. Martin

Martin Standard 1.8 113bhp at rear wheels as you'll see in the build thread. A supercharger or turbo would be great fun. My problem is I'm having trouble gauging how quick these cars are in 'real life'. While I appreciate their light weight, excellent handling and closeness to the ground will make it a fun experience, it would also be fun to show a clean pair of heals to a hot hatch at the traffic lights ! My previous weekend toy had 250bhp but it was in the form of a lazy V8, my current daily is a Golf R with 300bhp driving 1.5 tonnes. Could the 200bhp/tonne of the golf could be matched by a 700Kg MEV with 140bhp ? Don't get me wrong, it's not all about the performance, I also want something that looks completely different ! Martin

This discussion could go on and on. I suggest if you have the time to come to Curborough for our track day next month and have a look around, get a passenger ride and then decide if you fancy a MEV.
FYI - our club is much more than just the cars, we have a great friendly helpful bunch of people, plenty of roadtrips and gatherings, the MEV lifestyle is brilliant if you choose the option to participate in our activities.
