This was a closed road sprint, not quite a hill climb but certainly not flat and plenty twisty.
Two videos in one to compare, the top left kicks in after a few seconds after bottom right but they are quite well synched to compare the two runs.
The bottom right video was my third and fastest run, top left my final run but there is not much difference in the two runs until the 1:30 mark, up to then either could have been the winner however.........
I did come third in my class though, I say no more

I actually thought I was going faster in that run, braking later, more gas on exit but clearly the side by side shows this not to be the case at all.
I made one change to the car between runs, (they were consecutive), I turned the shock adjuster another notch (possibly two) as every time I went through the finish I grounded the back end on a little dip.
Maybe that contributed?
Also there was a lunch break between those two runs.
However at the end of the day my lack of experience and skills was what ultimately let me down.
Just before that run though another driver was advising me to get better racing tyres, I therefore conclude that he put the mockers on me!

Just a guess - slightly faster over the crest reducing grip
Just compared the actual speed at the point of letting go, in the non-slip run I rounded that corner at 72kph whereas when it let go I was doing 67kph, in fact a fraction slower. Of all the runs I did the fastest around that bend was 72kph and the slowest 67kph both of these are the ones in the video.
So what else changed?
Possible overreaction making it worse than it should have been but I don't remember anything twitchy in any other run.
Tyres colder due to lunch break?
On the suspension side -
Found something interesting when looking at the effect of damping on road handling. If you increase the damping at the rear it leads to oversteer.
I did increase the rear damping level throughout as I was still hitting the ground immediately after the finish line however I put more damping into the rear than the front then and added a couple more notches in the rear prior to that run.
Whether that was anything to do with it or not I reckon I will dial some out at the rear and in an the front.
Had another thought today, although I stayed pretty much on the road it would not have needed much more to have gone off completely, look at the nice wire fences either side of the not so wide road. When thinking about installing a cage vs. just a roll bar it was exactly these fences that persuaded me to go the cage route - as the man said he wasn't going to pick my head up when I went through one

Doesn't dampening effect how quickly the suspension moves not how much? Obviously if it's slower to move then dynamically the forces may have changed so you don't get the same extreme but if you're bottoming out regularly is it worth trying stiffer springs?

I was bottoming on a dip just a few metres after the finish line at about 100kph. It was almost like hitting a full width pot hole so no surprise I bottomed really.
I am wary of putting too stiff a spring set on as the roads here are not quite as smooth as the UK and this could cause even more trouble.
Whatever I do, changing settings, new tyres, change of springs or something else it will not be a reactionary change simply driven by one incident.

Didn't think it would be, just looking for more clarity on my understanding as much as anything, especially given a number of recent threads around bottoming out/grounding...
