Happy New Year everyone. Picked up my replicar kit just before Christmas , aircraft grey chassis, green body with yellow lipstick. Took Christmas and new year off as young family and now started the build. Running gear is done, pas and abs dropped. My donor used to belong to a poly bush company so that side was all taken care of. Ordered 2m rubber fuel hose, 25ft cupronickel for fuel lines under body, one way fuel valve for tank , some makilor rubber lined fuel p clips, some fuel hose clamps and some other things I'm sure I forgot ready to start. Today turned the chassis over and cut out the floor, leaving 75mm overlap on the edges , marked out 95mm gap and drilled 50 holes in each aluminium floorpan. Then using the floor as template copied these onto the chassis. Thin line of sealant and then 50 rivets in each side of the floor. So today was measuring, cutting, drill 200 holes and fit 100 rivets.

Good to see things are underway. I collect my kit week after next in the same colours. As we are close to each other I am available should you need any help at any stage. Not calling myself an expert in anything but this is my second kit so have some experience.

Thanks very much its my first build so taking it slow and my line of work isn't mechanical or engineering so enjoying the learning process.
I personally used more rivets than came in the kit so ordered a few more , my p clips for fuel and brakes should be in by next week.

Attached my rubber lined p clips along drivers side inner chassis rail and not enough space for brake line. These rubber p clips are quite bulky. I have found these, triple clips that can be ordered to hold 2 x 5/16 and 1 x 3/16 which I think is exactly what I need. One hold in chassis and all three pipes can be fitted in one clip. Here is the link what do people think ? www.jetpress.com/Products.aspx/vdhimyvk11/DriveRivetPipeClips-Triple/

After not being happy with the rubber p clips for fuel line and nylon clips for brake line I ordered a batch of the above clips. Yes a batch.....they don't supply direct to public so I ordered 100 and thankfully they are perfect. Wish I had started with these and saved me quite a bit of work. Basically I'm using new metal fuel lines and these clips hold 2 x 8mm od metal fuel lines and a brake line. Just need one hole drilled into chassis. Here they are bolted to the chassis. Close up. If anyone wants some of these just let me know and I'll sort you out I can do a bag of 10 for £6 that includes postage and packaging. That's half the price of the ones on car builder solutions that only hold two pipes. I'm not making on these just covering costs and hopefully helping out a bit.

Paul will pm you about the clips mate.
My chassis is now sat on my running gear, it took a while if I'm honest to line things up one tip is when rebuilding your suspension tighten it all up with the 2 bolts in the right angle for the holes on the new chassis. They are different angle than on the mx5. Also you will need a big Allen key to fit into the subframe bolt heads Stuart supplies get this before you start or you end up halfway through a job and stuck.
Got 4 rear and 4 front just in place, front arb is bolted up I didn't have an Allen key big enough so sourcing one in next few days then I can tighten all the subframe bolts up and then drill the final two in the footwell area.

Having the 5 bolts for the PPF loose also helps to line up holes.

Thanks for that, last night tightened up the four rear bolts, the kit comes with one washer per bolt but on the front I wanted one top and bottom so slid them out and managed to fit one each side, two more of them fitted on the front drivers side before the wife reminded me it was nearly midnight and I get up at 6 for work. Next few days do the f/n/s and then address the two lower bolts and see how they go.

Have you gone for the bolts going up or down on the frame, was wondering if there would be any fouling with the build later if they weren't fitted the right way

Bolts underneath for me, didn't want the sharp bolt threads sticking up especially those lower front ones which will be inside the car in footwell. Today fitted the other 4 front bolts after I sourced a few extra washers and drilled out the lower centre ones so now all 8 front bolts and 4 rear and top mounts all fitted and back to a rolling shell again. Just cleaning up my brake servo which I've sourced as dropping abs so can't use original and looking at radiator mounting options.

Placed tank on just to see what its like, need to work out what spacers I need also looks like as a mk2 tank looks like needs a little bit trimmed from the lip.
Mocked up pedals and brake servo now that's all cleaned up just to see how it goes together. Looks like accelerator pedal when fully down may hit the floor so needs spacing/angling up a bit I think.
Currently in my head, how best to space tank and radiator brackets.

The mk2 tank must be bigger than mk1 as it doesn't want to fit. Ground out the front lip and little brackets off as much as I can go and I think will just fit, trying some 25mm rubber spacers which have just ordered. Will see how it goes from there.
Had a quick mock up of the pedals so can measure the bars for the top support and order them.
Tinkered with some radiator mount options, still not decided what to do/fit.

I had the same problem with my petrol tank mk2.5. I ended out bending the front lip down where it was touching the chassis rails and using exhaust mounts I had spare from a Cobra build as spacers.

Thanks mate, painted the area I ground off last night so tanks protected again if I get half an hour on Sunday job is fitting the tank it may end up at a slight angle (rear elevated slightly ) but will see how it goes.
Using the oe radiator lower mounts I flattened the top of the bracket where the bolts attach to the body as the original bracket is contoured. Lick of paint and hopefully if I drill through the chassis can get two decent size bolts all the way through each side.
