After the issues I had starting the car with the immobiliser on I did a bit of digging. On the forums people are saying that the Jap import cars did not have a factory fitted immobiliser so the ECU will let the car start without anything else.
I have order a used Japanese spec ECU for a decent price so I am going to test the theory and see whether this means I can strip the lot out.

Can anyone confirm whether the american spec Miata wiring is the same as the UK ones? I was under the impression it was but trying to follow the documents on the Mellens website does not tally up with my car?
I have checked the vin number and it is definitely an NB car.

I think all the downloadable wiring diagrams are for NAS (North American Spec) cars, mostly the same as EU cars but some systems like immobilizers and factory alarm systems are not shown.
BTW JDM ECUs have a top speed limiter built in, about 110 MPH I think - feels like fuel starvation if you are doing a track day or something.

I have a 1998 NB 1.8. I have downloaded the documents from Mellens (1999 and 2000) and neither are even remotely close.
I just wanted to make sure I have the right documents before I start messing with the wiring but the ECU pinouts listed in these 2 docs do not match at all. Would the 1998 be entirely different?
Thanks

Its a UK spec car, I managed to find a 97 wiring diagram and some of that is similar but not a huge amount. I am slightly confused that it seems to be so different, not sure where to look now!

Thanks for that gwnar, it's not an exact match. I have a friend getting some data loaded onto his snapon diagnostics computer to see what diagrams we can get.
Next question. In the original fuel filler steel pipe there is a plastic roll over valve, is this required for IVA?

Can anyone confirm the size of fuse that the alternator connects to? It's on the main feed from the battery live.
Is it a 40amp?
My donors was missing and someone has just bent the crimp connector together so the contacts touch!
Thanks

Main fuse 80A it will be bolted in place from the sides with 10mm head bolts. Auto stores carry them..

Could anyone do me a massive favour and tell me what wires come from the main block connector for the indicator / signal stalk at the steering wheel? I'm missing the harness side of the connector but the wiring colours do not match on both sides and there are more cables on one.
I'm assuming some of the wires were joined after the connector for indicator signals or something.
Thanks
