Have you still got the Westfield? Did you build it? I am looking for a Westfield owner to participate in a episode of World of Kit cars.... I started my Westfield build late 2010 and hit the road late 2011. There are quite a few builds on the go in my area and a real mix of built cars from my little MX5 based car to a V8 powered machine. My build diary is markswesty.weebly.com/ but if you check www.wscc.co.uk/ you can get a list of local club meets. If you are looking for a Westfield to feature then contacting the local area meet will put you in touch with dozens of owners.

I have got the right firing order but as I now have a fuel leak after playing with the injectors I am waiting for a seal kit before I can try to fire the engine again. The kit is at my local sorting office so collecting Monday. Once leak free I will be looking at the timing plate first as a mistake on my part does sound the most likely cause.

Bit left field but are all four 'spikes' that the crank sensor detects intact on the rear of the crankshaft pulley? The only way to tell if its on back to front (which puts timing out) is to check which way 'indent' on plate centre is facing. Was passing the workshop and took a few photos of pulley to better explain what I meant. Took a shot of the rear to show how far bolts are in hub. and one from front.

Got the engine sorted, big thanks to all the support and suggestions. It was the timing plate on the pulley, on backwards As promised a short video of an engine start. Now I can crack on with the rest of the build, I think a little tidy of wiring will be next.

A little progress. You can see in the video that the dash is dead, eventually found a break in the printed circuit board on the back, it was the power supply for the dash so I suspect it has rubbed on the chassis and shorted, quick rewire and it is back. Also worked out why the fuel level was not working, not enough fuel, the reserve in the tank is quite large and you need alot of fuel to get the needle off empty. The wiring is getting better, now taping up again.
Big issue is the clutch, it has been refusing to adjust and all attempts result in a lack of gears and loads of smoke from the bell housing. Decided my ebay special clutch is duff and ordered a proper one which will arrive on Monday so prepping the car over the weekend for a clutch change.
I have bought some steel to start on making the front grill so looking forward to getting this started, time to practice my welding again.
Will take some fresh pics over the weekend

Well I have an answer to why I couldn't get gears. Looking at the old and new clutch together there are a few differences, not sure if this failure was the wrong part or poor quality part. I did think it might be an MX5 variant difference but it appears to be the same part in mk1 and mk2.

Worth sharing details of the failed part, part number, supplier etc just to inform/warn others.

Hi gwnwar, the clutch only worked for a few feet and after that I couldn't get a gear. Almost put everything back together after the clutch change so hoping to fire it up again over the weekend. While it is on the stands I will check the speedo is working ok. Started on some other bits since the chassis is getting close to being complete. Just got some perspex for the dash installation and started making the grill. In this photo you can see my best bird poop welding, the tubing is thin and even on my welders lowest setting it wants to blow holes. After a grinding and some filler it should look ok. I am thinking of putting some mesh behind this grill to stop any stones.

Got more done than I expected this morning, good news is clutch is ok now and the speedo is working. Thought I should celebrate with another garage cleanup which means getting some cars out. Unfortunately my old MGB hasn't moved under its own power since 1995 so that stays where it is for now.
