5 Club Racing MEV Series raced at the Silverstone National Circuit within the Sports Specials field. Kevin Dengate and Chris Lovett shared the MX150R victories.
Qualifying
Dengate set the quickest time in qualifying with a 1:09.44, which was just four tenths clear of Lovett.
Stewart Mutch also set a lap which was within a second on the pole time, setting up for an exciting couple of races. Darren Griffin beat Russell Clarke, Micky Scott and Sylvia Mutch to fourth on the grid.
Race 1
Dengate made the best start and immediately pulled out a gap. A gap that he controlled to end. Fourteen seconds was the victory margin over the 13 lap bout.
Lovett made a sluggish start and had to fight his way through the field. It wasn’t until the eleventh lap that he took second place back by getting ahead of Stewart Mutch.
Clarke took fourth, a place higher than he started as both he and Scott beat Griffin. Griffin made a mistake on the first lap, dropping him immediately to the rear of field forcing him to have to catch the pack. He caught Scott but couldn’t pass him.
Sylvia Mutch harried Scott for lap after lap until a coming together with the barrier forced retirement after eight laps.
Race 2
Scott was unable to start after damaging his engine in race 1, however he donated parts from his stricken car to Sylvia Mutch to get her out for race 2.
An awesome dice for the lead proved that quality is much more important than quantity for a good Motor Race.
A mistake saw early leader Dengate drop back on lap two. He dropped to third behind Lovett and Stewart Mutch. Dengate wasted no time and was back into second by the fourth tour.
By half distance, Dengate had caught Lovett leaving the pair to dice on circuit. Lap nine saw Dengate go to the front with Lovett sitting right behind him once more with the Silverstone National Circuit lending itself perfectly to slipstreaming.
On each lap before the end, it was a different driver leading to the lap prior. Only one hundredth of a second separated the pair at the flag. That’s the smallest margin that Terry Stevens and his timekeeping team can measure. Lovett just beating Dengate in the cracking race.
Mutch held on to third, just seconds back. Clarke, Griffin and Sylvia Mutch completed the top six finishers.
After such exciting racing, the MEV racers now look forward to Croft over the 23rd and 24th of May.
