Reread the above twice, unreal, are you sure you have not reversed the image

Nope. Bias drag tire (super light) vs steel belted radial tire (heavy) on a 3lb lighter wheel = 7 lb lighter/each

Got working on fenders today. The fronts are difficult but I think I'll be able to get them sorted after a few more days of work, I got the mount bars installed and bent, just have to get the actual fenders mounted to the bars now. The rear, however, isn't going to be so simple. The exomotive fenders aren't going to work for me, since my drag tires are just too big a diameter to fit inside the curve of the fender. Fortunately, Jack @ Kinetic vehicles makes some 30" diameter fenders for his lotus 7s that I'm going to attempt to make work. A bonus to that, is that the locost fenders are 12" wide, so I will have no issue fitting the drag slicks or race rubber 100% underneath

Alright, so medium sized update, took the car back to the dragstrip today in hopes of seeing a low 10 second slip. Unfortunately, it was not to be. I got off the line HARD, hooked up great with these new tires and even 60 footed the 9 second turbo stang next to me. On the 1-2 shift it just free rev'd and i knew something broke. Snapped the V8R/DSS axle straight in two at the stub. Too much powa. It's warrantied for far more hp then I make, but down the road I might be looking into the strongest thing they can make, because I can't have unexpected downtime. Could have been a bad heat treat too, hard to say. As they say, "Fast car problems." And thats alright. In unrelated news, got the rear upright bearing upgrades in. The steel sleeve is loctited or welded into hub, bearing is put in sleeve (aib10 size), sits on a sleeve on one end, c cliped other. Add spacers, pack with grease, seals on spacer, maintenance free. Prevents bushing bind in the critical articulation point since the bearing can articulate freely. Really trick pieces that let the suspension do its job. Next to the bush it replaced And last, but probably most important, BRAKES! V8R radial mount big brakes. Still waiting on the pads to get here, but this kit should save me 7 pounds a corner, plus stop 100 times better then the crap mystery brakes that are on the car. Excited. With a little bit of luck I can get the replacement axle back in the car by this friday for divisionals this weekend. Going to be close.

More brake stuff. Old rotor on top of new rotor Sure look good. Interestingly, these have no chance of fitting my current front track wheels (JNC 003 15x9), since the caliper is much larger at the face and the JNC have a very low pad with flat spokes that attach in the wheel center. With my street wheels, the opposite is true, there is more clearance because the spokes attack on the outside close to the wheel face. I am going to have to get a new pair of front wheels, something with a concave face/curved spokes and a high pad. It's actually quite difficult to find something that meets those requirements in a 15x9+0, but I think we can get away with a lower offset wheel in the front, so I got these +25 wheels, to which I'll add a 10mm spacer bringing them to +15, which should fit fine, since there is lots of clearance up front - it's the rear that's tight. Will have the side benefit of improving steering effort.

So as it turns out, the wheels are actually stamped +15 offset, although they are advertised as +25. I measured and verified +15, which is fantastic as my 10mm spacer brings them to +5 offset, though they did bolt on just fine with no spacers, and cleared everything. Just means they fit a little better then expected The spokes have a DEEP curve to them, I really like the way these wheels look. The plan is definitely to get a matching set in the rear (and an appropriate spacer), I like this look a lot better then the 003s. Got the new cv stub on and banded (an absolute chore to remove the old one), DSS warrantied it with no questions asked and even sent a new boot, which i'll keep as a spare. Lastly, finally got around to drilling the wing mounts and threading them all for bigger bolts. Here's a comparison of the stock bolts to the bigger M8-1.25 bolts, which are roughly 3 times as thick and should be loads stronger. I haven't had any issues, but others have snapped the stock bolts. Better safe then sorry. Divisional autocross this weekend. I also added a build sheet to the first page of this thread, since I had a couple requests for it.

Poor showing at the first day of the divisional. My rear hub bearing races did not hold and came loose, which I discovered after my runs. Made sense why the back end kept acting unpredictable. I JB welded them in for a temp fix, hopefully that will hold me through day 2. I will get them permanently welded into place monday. On the plus side, new brakes are fantastic and new wheels worked properly. Took another half degree of camber out of the front, pyro said so.

JB weld held, day 2 was a lot better. Time to prep the car for the road course. Street meats and big wing going back on

Working on last few things to be road course legal. Wing is back on, now sorting the fenders. Got the rears done, on to the fronts. Frame mounted the rear, so they sit up off the tires some but will be much stiffer. Front is hub mounted so they will sit closer. Challenging to make them accomodate the huge hoosiers.

Can't believe I waited so long to put fenders on. Rocks flung at driver or into cabin reduced by 99.5%. I was in the to hell with fenders crew before going on a drive with them on. I was even planning to take these off after the track weekend this weekend. NOPE. This is a must-do.

Great day at the road course, and on the last lap of the last session this happened One of the factory rods checked out permanently. Will be taking a few months off to remove everything, make a few little changes and build an engine with forged rods/pistons that will take the prolonged high rpm stress.

Great day at the road course, and on the last lap of the last session this happened Ouch. We had a guy with a similar lament yesterday, however his came as he disappeared over a bank on the side of a hill and the only thing left holding him up above the 100m drop was a high tensile 5 wire fence. Still at least he had the decency to move off the racing line

Got started tearing it back down. Have to drop the exhaust and then just slide the whole motor forward up and out
