Tony, I'm in the same boat as you right now hunting CL for a nice donor in CA. I have alerts setup on CL too so am happy to see you're in SoCal so that we're not stepping on each other's toes. SoCal does seem to have better deals though so perhaps you'll find yours before mine.
I'm perhaps even more unrealistic than you right now as I'm only a few weeks into my search, but I'm looking for an M Edition in that price range. Figure that will save me from needing to install an aftermarket LSD down the line. However, patience is steadily declining and I'm starting to widen my net.
Also, it seems some NB builds have issues with the Exo frame not fitting 100% right and needing adjustments. Seems NA donors have better luck in this area.
Edit: Actually just noticed your last post is in March, did you find your donor yet ?

Hi phocup, just saw your post...
I actually turned-off my CL alerts as repairing our old home and getting ready for the market has taken much longer than anticipated. Found some major work that entail jacking-up part of the house, building a new cripple wall... Long story short, I won't have it on the market until late this month, early next. Once it sells, I can then get ready for this fun project!
It seems that you think I'm in SoCal. I am in the Bay Area actually...
Wish you luck getting the Miata you want!

Tony, sorry I'm not sure where I got SoCal from. Reading comprehension fail on my part. GL with your house sale .. sounds like quite a project.
You're not missing out much from having your alerts off though. Seems the going rate for 150k-200k mile NA6 with salvage title around here is around $4k. LOL. Hopefully winter time will bring some people to their senses.

Thought I started such a thread!
Well, house sold. What a pain as I was between homes for a LONG time - fixing one for the market, and the "new" one to receive my family...
Speaking of "salvaged title", are there any negative consequences or special considerations when purchasing such a Miata for these purposes (Exocet build)?

As long as your front and rear sub frames and the middle isn't bent, it's all upside as the price is lower If it has a lot of body damage now (assume it's salvaged title, so it's been repaired, but if not...) you won't be able to sell as many parts, but selling stuff on Ebay or CL isn't what I'd call "fun". It's quite the opposite. If you find something reasonable, go for it! Look forward to your future build photos.

calibuild - Thank you.
Your response prompted me to search the forum and I found your build thread. Kudos on getting your plates a couple weeks back!
Ok, thanks for your input on salvage title considerations. Seems like it could be a prudent way to save a few bucks... That said, making sure the frames are not bent might not be something that I'll have a high degree of confidence.
I don't mind making the purchase anytime, for what will likely be a late year start, early next. Our new home remodel, much I'm doing, should be done by Fall, prior to the holidays, so I'd have some time to take-on a new project afterwards.
Was a little bummed to read that Steadfast left us. He was quite local as I recall and a heck of a resource, as many here know...
Thanks again, and best to you and your Exocet!
