Can anyone please suggest a polishing/waxing substance that will remove (or disguise) the circular buffering smears that i can't get rid of on my exocet? All the fibreglass panels are finished black which seems impossible to buff all the swirls out of. I'm not sure whether this is light damage to the lacquer-coat, or just natural on this type of paintwprk, but however long I polish the smear marks won't buff out. I've tried a few types of wax car polish. I'm reluctant to t-cut I don't want to cause damage. I need a black wax of some sort to add a layer? Any suggestions anyone please gratefully appreciated.

No need to put your posts in bright green large , if you've been supplied with a standard kit bodywork then you will have a fibreglass gel coat finish and not paint, therefore a suggest a tee cut or more abrasive rubbing compound like Farecla G3 off ebay or available from any car body shop supplier, it all depends on how deep the marks are (posting a pic worth a 1,000 words) as with any polishing you need to start with a compound that matches your needs re depth of marks gradually refining the process, using less abrasive compounds, to a polish only finish.

thanks for your help nigel. thats appreciated. yes its a standard fibreglass body. so when you mention tcut, did you mean tcut is a good thing to use or that it is too abbrasive? i dont want to make the problem worse. i have googled and and checked forums but with mixed answers i wondered if anyone had any first hand experience.

It all depends on how thick the gel coat is and how deep the scratches are. The depth of gel coat on the MEV bodywork, going on my own experience with the Sonic is reasonably thick and will certainly stand normal tcut no problem. I have had cause on one occasion to use much harsher measures such as wet and dry sand paper, then G3 then tcut finally turning to polish to get rid of a deep scratch and return the bodywork to the desired gleam If you can find time to post a pic then it would be far easer to advise. As a general precaution, best to try out what ever you decide upon in a discreet area of bodywork first. nigel

thank you.. hey, i think i might have solved it! i had an old (and i mean OLD ie 20+ years!..) flat tin of turtle wax which i tried discreetly on a side pod first but seemed to work so continued. i need to check in full light but it seems to have done a nice job! 'not sure if this stuff is even still available nowadays?? but if so then get some, assuming the recipe is the same (which it may well not be) then its good stuff! thanks again for your advice!

Whatever works for you, however you may find that the scratches reappear shortly, and that you will need to tcut them out first before polish is applied.
