Interesting temp question??

Hi guys, been really busy, so not posted much recently! Basically finished and will put some finished pictures up
soon! Have my Trike on what we call a 48h temp permit, means you can drive to various destinations to get it weighed, emissions etc! this is repeatable so you can do this as many times as you wish without being tested!
Only $23 so been to the other side of Australia for a pint of milk and a lettuce, just to drive! Great fun! Firstly could I say, Shi- never been in anything so quick in my life! ok pull away in the trike I found is probably not massively blistering (weight issue I guess with gear box etc!) but second up is blistering, have lowered gear sprockets etc which I'm sure has helped (not interested in top end) over hear in Oz its all V8s etc and they don't touch this machine to be fair! Been offered money when I pull up at lights, filling up, shopping centres! not interested at moment, a great machine! Nearly everyone has asked where they can get one from, as first here! I will be sending directly to UK as probably some of you have read about the representative for MEV here in Australia,

The question I'm asking guys is, my Trike runs at in traffic around 98c - 104 maybe, apparently quite normal, take into account temp here is always around 35 - 40 degrees!! summer, interesting fact is, if your trike say runs at average of 98 - 105c, when you come to turn engine off, just flick back ignition on without starting, interestingly you will see the temp climb to around 117c which even a untrained mechanic would say is quite hot (flashing red light!!) being a heating engineer I'm putting this down to water pump not circulating with engine off! Read some threads on yam forums and even bikes have this problem, my question is, should you be worried about this, I guess I am! but bike forums say this is quite normal forget about it! So next time you take your Trike out on a hot day (Joke! UK) ok thrashing then, just try this see what your temp says! I currently use coolant with manual fan switch.
O yea, and does tilting radiator forward make a big difference to say up right!

That's a great idea a temp permit:-) you get to do some test runs. I found pulling away is a bit tricky but you soon get the hang of it, there's always the "half throttle drop the clutch and wait for tyre traction " :-)
Well I was out yesterday in mine and it was a bit chilly at 9deg the hottest I got to was 75deg. In the summer it runs about 90-95 but in traffic it goes up to the fan so 104 ish.
Where abouts is you temp sensor and fan switch? If it's still in the radiator then it could be worth moving it to the pipe exiting from the thermostat on top of the head somewhere.
Also the rad would be better tilted yes, this makes the air do a bit more work and help it cool.

Many modern cars run the fan at least after switch off, an electric water pump could at least circulate the coolant to stop it reaching that top end temp after stopping...

Thanks guys, the temp censor is still located on the engine as original, with a cut in fan set up, it's connected direct to the radiator, this cuts in on what ever temp you like so I've got mine on about 80c!
An electric pump set up sounds good, can you get them and has anyone fitted this? I think I will tilt radiator forward, like you said Andy sounds sensible to catch as much air as poss, also read about mesh holes are a little small, apparently some members have changed mesh for larger air flow! You know this is without doubt Trike country, I mean always blue sky's temps of average 35c, along with good coast roads, mind you every time I go out in the Trike, if there is a police car any ware and spots me, they pull me over straight away (every time so far!) Think there more interested coz never seen anything like it (non Kit car country!)Judging from what I've read, R1's are very prone to hi temps, unlike other makes, still so far there's no problems but certainly be interested In electric pump set up! could save thousands.
Regards pull away, have no probs at all in getting going, its just that I'm a bit concerned about giving it to much stick in case damage gears! do you guys go flat out sometimes on pull away? Not tried:)

How are ya Paul, was you selling at one point? Try and keep tabs on forum as much as possible!

Do you seriously give it some stick on pull away Paul, I mean full throttle? Does it take the load being quite a bit heavyer than original bike, dumb question but just trying to work the trike out I guess, great machine but I'm guessing in the wrong hands with the speeds they do, even though they handle like Maradonna!! could be a disaster!!

If you're still using the std mesh that came with the kit that would be the first thing I would change for something a little less restrictive, though it won't make much difference at traffic lights but will at speed with the air flowing through it.
If that still doesn't cool it enough you could try a larger radiator.

Take a look at daviescraig.com.au...I have one of their systems on my tR1ke with the busa motor, It consists of a Digital controller that controls an electric water pump plus the radiator fan even after the ignition is turned off.

Cheers Kev, sounds good idea with electric water pump set up! ill have a look, I guess I'm still quite lucky getting around 98 - 104 ish temps, considering its so bloody hot here. Got a little story for anyone having no idea about driving Trikes,
Hot day, took trike out for a cruise to collect a little cash from a hard earned job, $650 or maybe $700 not sure, anyway driving home, with lights approaching, I stop and gaze at traffic to my right, (complete jam)
kids pointing, people waving as not seen this baby in Oz, anyway with my wallet and phone by my trusty side in passenger seat, decided to let them have a taste of the old trikes dirty power!! I'm off with smile on my face! not knowing that my pissing wallet decided to go to! Right over the top!! $50 every ware floating in the sky! Baster- I thought, turned round as soon as I could, only to see people picking it up and off they went!! one pratt even picked wallet up and darted for it, had my bank cards, driving licence, plumbing licence, shi- even my spare condom! well had my address and mug shot in wallet, but still didn't return it!
So moral of the story, for anyone building a Trike don't be a plonka like me!
