Did you pass the IVA ok with your screen fitted and did you put any trim on it?

Yeah screen was fitted. I had trimmed it a little to ensure that it was below line of sight. I also spent time giving the top a radius, with emery and then t-cut. Tester mentioned that it wasn't strictly radiused enough but it passed. It's comforting to know that I trimmed it enough to not be a windscreen but I'd be tempted to leave it off if I was doing it again.

Thanks, think I might leave mine until later then.

I always say leave it off for IVA as sometimes you are asked to prove it won't shatter even if it is low enough and radius is 2.5mm. It's very easy to slip when sanding a rad on the edge and cause a scratch to the front. Been there done that! Knock on trim looked a bit naff when I tried it. If it hasn't got a screen it's one less thing for testing, maybe we should get a discount, Replicar is soooo easy for the inspectors, they could do 8 per day instead of 2 !

I see lots of people sending proof of insurance with their V55/5, even though the form states : The guidance on the website www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/new-registrations is more ambiguous, stating : Which could be taken to mean you need an insurance certificate unless you are in Northern Ireland in which case a cover note will do, but that's twisting it a lot. The V355/5 guidance form for the V55/5 does not mention anything re. insurance. I'm not planning on sending proof of insurance. Any one had a problem with this?

A specialist insurer will issue a policy using the VIN as you don't have a reg yet. Can't remember what I did with the Westfield but as I had insurance I probably included it. You won't get it taxed without insurance so sending it could help speed up the process. The less time you spend dealing with DVLA the better.

I received my v5 and reg number today.
I can confirm that you do not need to include insurance even for tax when registering. I have a tax slip and I did not insure the vehicle. So if you want to go that route, it should be ok.
They did however not return my IVA, so i'll be calling about that.

Mea culpa, IVA is not expected to be returned from DVLA.

Good to know, cheers westie. First drive: 20 mile shakedown, just need to tighten rear view mirror mounting. Then new wheels, suspension etc etc blah blah. God it's fun, made it all worth it. Feels like a really tight and agile mx5, crazy amounts of road feel and even more steering input responsiveness.

I've lost 2 baseball caps so far.
I keep finding myself in a gear above where I would have been. Instead of sitting in 4th on some country road and dropping to 3rd for a blat when the opportunity arises, I'm sitting in 5th and only realising when I drop to 4th and it still pulls. Dropping to 3rd instead causes all sorts of extra excitement. I'm sure it's mainly the massive weight saving, but I think the lighter flywheel helps a bit as well.
It does kind of have a heater built in, all the hot engine air enters the cabin between the body and dash at the top, and around the sides of the footwell. Noticeable and pleasant in the summer. Not sure if there will be any effect in the winter.
Just one ugly clunk under certain loads to look at. It really is hilarious fun.

Get a couple of small pinch squeeze clips and about 6" of elastic strip 1/4" wide.. Fasten clip to each end.. clip one end on back of hat other to collar of shirt.. Might just be an exhaust tube rattle check your rubber donuts.. You can tighten them up by putting a screw clamp around them..

Some small quality of life additions, can't live without oil temp. Added essential air freshener for that new car smell and a dash mounted navigation system.
