I used the Gates hose as well placing the filler on the passenger side like einy however my hose still kinked. I had a couple of extra hose clamps and placed them at the kink and no more issue. Just make sure it doesn't compress or chafe the hose. It only has to be tight enough to help the hose maintain the shape. As gwnwar says, it's kinda shade tree, but it worked.

Looks good, and a good reference for others working on the fuel filler. Took my tailpipe elbow to a shop for welding yesterday, so I'm committed to trying it.

I have a title!!! Just showed up in the mail. VIN is Exomotive serial number, Year: 1966, Make: LOTUS, Odometer: Exempt, Additional Vehicle Detail: Titled in WI as Replica, Basic Vehicle: 1996 MAZD JM1N...
Cool. Now I have to figure out the hobbyist plate thing.

Way to go Jim! That was even easier than registering my trike.

Need plates before hitting the road, and trying to figure out what we're going to do on that - Hobbyist, Vanity, or Regular plates. Thinking it might just be easiest and fastest to head into the local DMV office and see if they'll give me plates. (Will they issue regular plates on a Replica?) I don't want to have to wait another six weeks for Hobbyist plates.

I think that is a good way to go. Once you have it registered you can always change when they are about to expire. You should be locked in so they cannot take it away:)

Have not applied for plates yet, don't see much point since the weather is just warming up now, and we should be able to get temp plates and get on the road as soon as we apply. Anyway, got the rear bodywork and "bonnet" mounted. We put an aluminum angle across the front of the gas tank to mount the fuel filter and tie the fuel lines down. I messed around with different gas filler schemes and finally had an elbow made from 1 7/8" exhaust pipe. It works but there's a kink in the vent so once the tank hits a quarter full it tends to burp gas back at you when you're filling it. Need to unkink the vent line. Here's the car with F & R bodywork - no fenders yet. The black chrome wheels get dirty really quickly with the carbotech pads. We ran a local autocross and my son managed to pick up the first trophy with the car. There's definitely more to be done to sort it out and it will get faster. It developed a weird 1800 rpm idle/periodic surging thing that we need to figure out, but overall it worked pretty well and was a blast to drive.

Ooooo ... the filler pipe is EXACTLY what I've been thinking about doing 'not too far down the road' ... !!!
Now, you just need to make a 5/8" OD one for the vent hose, Jim!

Now, you just need to make a 5/8" OD one for the vent hose, Jim! Did pretty much the same thing on the vent hose. Used aluminum tube from the hardware store - 1/2", I think - and flared it with a Harbor Freight flaring set to get a bead on the end, then bent to near a 90 degree angle. Didn't take any pics but I think you get the idea. The kink in the hose is near the filler.

The two big goals for this weekend are to get the fenders and the windshield on, which should pretty much make us road-worthy. Should be pretty simple... Onto the rear fenders. The rear mount on the rear wheel - off the tab that I drilled holes for - sits pretty high, which is probably OK. However the front mount sits really tight to the wheel, and I'm worried that at high speed the tire will rub. Looks to me like the strut was welded to the tab a bit on the low side. I'm going to mount them anyway and revisit them if they do rub. Then there's the windshield. The side bracket swivel bolts are too long to fit between the frame and the bracing tabs on the windshield frame. Suggestions from anyone that has installed the Exomotive windshield frame would be greatly appreciated. My current thinking is that the tabs just get bent out and the swivel bolts force fit. Edit: Got the windshield frame on, just required two people and more enthusiasm than I was applying. All fender mounts on, 1 fender mounted, 3 to go.

I am working on offset spacers for that very spot, Jim. Driiled and tapped holes on each side. Inside will get a bolt thru the windshield frame. Outside will have mirrors threaded into them thru the hole in the frame tab. A ways out yet, but will post pics when done on my windshield thread.
